OKI was in attendance yesterday at the ribbon cutting for the Benchmark River and Rail Terminals new rail crossing project, which was funded by a Federal Railroad Administration's Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant and administrated by OKI.
The project, which built a rail crossing guard to the entrance of Benchmark Terminal on River Road, will increase the safety of drivers and trucks crossing the seven rail tracks and to drivers on River Road.
The event also welcomed representatives from Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Ohio Rail Development Commission, CORBA, City of Cincinnati and more.
OKI CEO Mark Policinski said, "At the end of the day, projects like this remind us of a simple truth: when committed partners come together with a shared purpose, in a true team and team spirit, there is very little we cannot accomplish."
Congratulations to Benchmark on this new safety feature!

With a grant from ODOT, OKI has begun a bicycle and pedestrian counter pilot program, with ten counters across Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties.
The goal of the program is to develop short-term counts and to create a model for multimodal volumes across the region. OKI's Elizabeth Niese, Senior Data Analyst, said, “This data will also guide transportation planning and inform strategic investments in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in the region.”
Locations were chosen by roadway type, proximity to zero car households, safety concerns and other factors.
OKI has invested heavily in active transportation for more than two decades. Since 2002, the agency has directed over $189 million toward bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Nearly $130 million of that has supported 117 multiuse paths in the past 15 years alone — representing 12% of OKI’s federal transportation funding
Thanks to TEC Engineering for their help with the installation of the counters!

The Ohio River Challenge, hosted by our friend at Ohio River Way, is a thru paddle of the Ohio River to raise awareness and celebrate the beauty, history, and culture of the Ohio River. Volunteers paddle between 15 and 35 miles a day and switch out with others paddlers along the ride.
On Monday, OKI's Water Quality Planner David Rutter is joining the paddle on the last leg from Evansville, Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky.
