September is National Preparedness Month!

With the potential for above-normal rainfall this winter, now is a good time to prepare your home and family for emergencies. Taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference when severe weather or other unexpected events occur.

Make a plan and consider your family’s unique needs. Make sure children know important phone numbers, identify multiple ways to evacuate your neighborhood, and take steps to protect your home from hazards such as heavy rain and flooding. Don’t forget to check your emergency supplies and make sure your emergency kit is stocked and ready to go.

Preparedness is also a community effort. The City of Claremont has adopted a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to help identify and reduce risks from natural hazards and build a safer, more resilient community for residents, businesses, and visitors. City staff also participate in regular training to ensure departments are prepared to respond effectively when emergencies occur.

Stay informed by signing up for the City’s Emergency Alert Program. Alerts can provide critical, time-sensitive information about severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations, and other emergencies. You can choose to receive notifications by phone, text, email, and more.
