đź’§ Meet some of our 2026 Community Water-Wise Award winners! These outstanding residents and organizations are proving that beautiful landscapes and water conservation go hand in hand.

🌺 City of St. Petersburg, Florida Residential Winner: Madison Tucker transformed a yard once dominated by invasive plants into a thriving wildlife paradise filled with native plants. By collecting rainwater, using A/C condensate, and avoiding fertilizers and pesticides, she's created a beautiful landscape that protects both water resources and local habitat.

🌼 Pinellas County Government Residential Winner: Joan Hartsough's journey began by discovering Florida-Friendly Landscaping through the FFLIP program. Joan embarked on a remarkable journey to redesign her landscape with native and drought-tolerant plants. Her rain garden, minimal watering practices, and commitment to reducing runoff make her property a shining example of sustainable gardening.

🦋 Pinellas County Residential Winners: Lucy & Tom Peak have spent more than a decade transforming their Palm Harbor landscape into a drought-tolerant haven filled with native plants and pollinator activity. Beyond their own yard, Lucy shares her knowledge with neighbors and HOA residents, helping inspire a community-wide appreciation for Florida-Friendly Landscaping.

🌧️ Commercial/Governmental Winner: Pinellas County Mosquito Control & Vegetation Management Division turned what was once mostly turfgrass into a vibrant landscape featuring more than 70 native plant species, rain gardens, and thousands of gallons of rainwater harvesting capacity. Their team's passion for conservation demonstrates how public facilities can lead by example while protecting water resources and supporting wildlife.

🎉 Tampa Bay Water has been awarded a $10 million Alternative Water Supply Grant to help expand our Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant.

A special thank you to Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Alexis Lambert for their commitment to securing Florida's water future through investments in resilient, sustainable water supplies.

This expansion project will add up to 12.5 million gallons per day of drinking water treatment capacity, helping us make better use of water we're already permitted to withdraw while strengthening the resilience of our regional water supply system. The project is part of a $167 million investment in critical infrastructure that will support our region for decades to come.

Today in Crystal River, I was proud to announce $100 million for springs restoration and alternative water supply projects throughout Florida.

This funding will support:

✔️ 23 Springs Restoration Grants to protect the quality and quantity of water that flows from our freshwater springs.

✔️ 22 Alternative Water Supply Grant projects to help communities plan for and implement water conservation, reuse, and supply projects.

Since 2019, my administration has invested over $430 million in 147 springs restoration projects across Florida. These projects have reduced total nitrogen pollution by an estimated 930,000 pounds annually, helping improve water quality and protect the ecosystems that sustain our springs.

Florida’s freshwater springs are among our state’s most treasured natural resources. We have a responsibility to protect these resources for future generations.

Respect Flaggers. You wouldn’t run a red light – don’t ignore a flagger.

A flagger’s job is to help motorists safely pass active construction sites, where equipment, lane shifts and changing road conditions can create unexpected hazards. Depending on the work taking place, they may direct drivers to slow down, stop or help drivers maneuver around equipment. Disregarding these instructions puts the driver and construction crews in danger. Following a flagger's directions helps to keep everyone safe in the work zones.

Here's Your Sign to Stay Alert and Slow Down

Motorists driving in work zones along the South Hillsborough Pipeline route are likely to encounter frequent lane shifts, changing speed limits, large trucks sharing the roadways and detours.

Even familiar roads can look different when construction is underway. That's why it's important to keep your eyes up, stay alert, pay attention to posted signs and avoid distractions, especially your phone while driving. Be patient with delays and remember that crews are working to keep traffic moving safely through construction areas.
