My Originals Round 2

I was once directed to replace my vest because it was worn, filthy, and supposedly didn’t present the appearance expected of a leader.

I disagreed. To me, in an MC, a worn vest can tell a story. The fading, grime, repairs, and wear can represent miles ridden, work done, time invested, and a willingness to actually live the life rather than simply look the part.

I still complied. I generally support my chain of command in matters that don’t involve life, limb, eyesight, or something I believe would genuinely harm the MC.

Looking back, though, that guidance still doesn’t align with my beliefs about leadership. I’m not angry about it. It’s simply an observation that seems worth discussing and it aligns with Drifter’s post:

Should an MC leader look polished, or should he look like he’s been out there on the slab?
