⭐️Certified Crime Prevention Community⭐️
Today Sheriff Chilton, Chief Deputy McKnight, Master Deputy Guerrero, and Deputy Gibson traveled to Richmond for the Department of Criminal Justice Services committee vote, to acknowledge the strong work of our office.
Being recognized as a Certified Crime Prevention Community in Virginia represents a commitment to creating a safer, stronger, and more connected community. It demonstrates that local leaders, law enforcement, public safety professionals, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and residents understand that preventing crime is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation, communication, and dedication.
Crime prevention is about more than responding to crimes after they occur. It is about taking proactive steps to reduce opportunities for criminal activity, identify potential risks, educate the public, and create an environment where people feel safe in their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Through education, awareness, and community involvement, we can work together to address problems before they become crimes.
A Certified Crime Prevention Community recognizes the importance of building strong relationships between law enforcement and the people they serve. Trust, transparency, and open communication are essential to these partnerships. When residents feel comfortable reporting suspicious activity, sharing concerns, and working alongside public safety officials, the entire community benefits.
To date we are among only 19 other communities that have put in the work to gain this trusted certification across the Commonwealth!
