⏰ We understand that you’ll be busy with Halloween parties and trick-or-treating this weekend, but we want to remind you to add two important things to your to-do list: change your clocks and check your smoke alarms.

Our partners at the Davenport Fire Department say that Daylight Saving Time is the perfect opportunity to take two minutes to check your smoke alarms and change the batteries if needed.

🎃👻 With city-wide Trick-or-Treating taking place this Saturday from 5:30 P.M. — 7:30 P.M., consider these safety tips to make your trick-or-treat experience a little less ghoulish:

- Trick-or-treat in a group and always be aware of your surroundings.
- Bring a flashlight! You can also carry a glow stick or use reflective tape to help you be seen.
- Stay on the sidewalks! If there are no sidewalks available, stay to the outside of the road and walk against traffic so you can be seen.
- Cross at intersections where traffic signals are present! Never assume that vehicles can see you and that you have the right-of-way.

Drivers: Please slow down, avoid distractions, and keep a watchful eye out for excited trick-or-treaters!

Stay safe this weekend, Davenport! We're here if you need us.

Did you know the Davenport Police Department has a Crime Scene Unit?

While you may not see them out and about every day, the Crime Scene Unit plays an important role behind the scenes by collecting and processing evidence collected during calls for service.

For this week’s Fun Fact Friday, Lindsey gives us a glimpse into her role and shares a little about what she does as a Crime Scene Technician.

👏 Davenport, we can’t thank you enough!

Thanks to your incredible generosity and support, we raised $5,670 at our Tip-A-Cop event at Texas Roadhouse benefiting Special Olympics Iowa! Even more exciting, communities across the state came together to raise more than $24,000 for Special Olympics Iowa!

We are so grateful to be part of such an amazing community that continues to show up and support Special Olympics athletes across Iowa. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to donate, enjoy a meal, visit with us, and help make this event such a success.

Your support makes a difference, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Be safe. Be seen. Cross smart.

Whether you’re walking to school, heading to work, or enjoying your neighborhood, a few simple habits can help you get there safely:
- Use sidewalks whenever available.
- Cross at crosswalks or intersections. Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
- Put your phone away and stay alert.
- Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight after dark.
- Make sure drivers have stopped before stepping into the roadway.

Drivers: Slow down, watch for pedestrians, and give people time and space to cross safely.

Let’s look out for each other, Davenport.
