June is National Safety Month. Here are 4 tips on staying safe at work, on the roads, at home, and with your health.

1. PPE, every time. Have a career that requires you to wear personal protection equipment? All it takes is one fall, one exposure, one cut to change your life. Always wear your PPE.

2. Never text behind the wheel. In 2025, Colorado passed the Hands-Free Law which requires all Coloradans to drive without their phone in their hands for any reason. CDOT research shows using a mobile device while driving increases crash risk by two to six times.

3. Make sleep a priority. Tired workers get hurt. Sleep deprivation is the cause of many preventable injuries annually. If your job requires you to drive a vehicle, operate machinery, or use a firearm, it is especially important that you prioritize at least eight hours of sleep every night. If you have issues falling or staying asleep, talk with your doctor to learn about possible treatments.

4. Read the labels. According to the National Safety Committee, the leading cause of death in our homes and communities is poisoning (49%). Make sure you read labels and place potential hazards up and away from children and areas where you eat or store food.
