In just two hours, our Coffee & Conversation event created meaningful dialogue and impactful Q&A around homelessness—covering the realities and effects of being unhoused, the Needs Management Map, and tangible ways our community can become more involved in helping to end homelessness.
Our panel featured our dedicated program leadership, including Matthew Albert Tommelein, Niemi, Herren, and Goddard. We were also honored to have remarks and participation from our CEO, Stoyka, our Lead Navigator Mr. Walk, Community Outreach Case Manager Cass T. Our, and Board Chair Santiz, who shared updates on our upcoming 5K event.
There were thoughtful questions, valuable connections made, and a shared commitment to action, and for that, we are truly grateful to everyone who attended and engaged.
A special thank-you to our generous donut donors for keeping the conversation energized: Tim Hortons, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and delicious donuts.
If you have not yet registered for the 5K, made a donation, or selected a sponsorship package, there is still time - https://runsignup.com/race/mi/detroit/hustleforhomes

On July 11th, we will be hosting our first annual 5k Run, Hustle for Homes Race. Proceeds benefit the unhoused community and those suffering from housing insecurity. Our work with Detroit area homeless families, youths and individuals provides critical assistance to the community. I hope you will consider supporting us in any of five ways:
1. Donate or set a fundraising goal of $500 or more here and if you donate [$50] or more, you can choose a song to be added to my race playlist
2. Participate in the race yourself by registering at https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Detroit/HustleForHomes
3. Share out this link to the race with your network or invite your friends from our Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/share/1CmaK6MKEK/
4. If you know any organization who may be interested in sponsoring the race, help us connect with them
5. Come down to the Dequindre Cut on the morning of July 11th and cheer us on at 9AM
Your support helps us provide the following:
• Essential Documentation: Obtaining IDs, Social Security cards, and birth certificates.
• Move-in Costs: Covering fees and deposits that often stand in the way of a new home.
• Home & Life Essentials
o Household Necessities: Providing items to turn a house into a home.
o Daily Support: Funding transportation passes and school supplies.
o Long-Term Stability: Wraparound Services: We provide counseling and support services to ensure lasting independence.
To learn more, go to www.chsinc.org or if you’d like to join our mailing list, let me know and I will have you added.
