🌙 Finding the sweet spot between safety and dark skies!

On Thursday night, Teton County staff joined partners from Wyoming Game and Fish and Wyoming Stargazing at Stilson to evaluate the facility’s programmable lighting.

We assessed the lights at both their brighter setting and their dimmed setting, which activates when no movement is detected. Our top priority is ensuring the safety of everyone using the facility, while also minimizing impacts on wildlife and neighboring residents.

After evaluating the lighting in real-world conditions, we believe we found the right balance and adjusted every light pole accordingly.
We also had some special guests join us: Jackson Hole Middle School robotics students who have been working on a dark skies project.

They were excited to see how the concepts they’ve been studying in the classroom connect to real-world decisions happening right here in our community. What a great opportunity to bring learning to life!

Wilson Downtown Construction Updates 🚧

Crews are continuing to work on the storm drain system on the north side of the roadway, which is underground and not visible to the public.

The new Hungry Jack’s approach has begun, and crews are finishing up grading for the curb and gutter.

The concrete pours are in progress as well, with pours working east to west for the next couple of weeks, then grading for the sidewalk to follow.

Did you know? Downtown Wilson improvements have been a long time coming.

Over the past twenty years, increasing population and regional traffic have led to increased community character, safety, and speeding issues within Wilson. In 2017, a concerned group of Wilson residents discussed these issues with WYDOT and Teton County, and a study was commissioned in late 2019 to investigate potential solutions.

The Wilson Multi-Modal Transportation Study was released in early 2022. It identified numerous opportunities and constraints within the corridor that inform and guide the projects you see today!
