Good morning, Facebook,
Just a friendly reminder that WDVFD will be making apple butter again this Saturday, the 26th, for the second weekend in a row! We’ll also be starting to sell last week’s batch at 8 a.m.!
You might wonder what all that gear costs inside a VFD. Here’s a breakdown of the average cost of the gear we wear on a fire:
Turnout Coat and Pants: $2,000 – $4,000 for the heavy, heat-resistant protective clothing.
Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA): $5,000 – $9,000 for the air pack, harness, and face mask needed in toxic smoke.
Helmet, Boots, Gloves, and Hood: $1,200 – $2,000 combined for basic head-to-toe personal protection.
Portable Radio: $3,000-$11,000 depending on the communication model and accessories required by the department.
This is just a snapshot of the costs, not including trucks, truck maintenance, building maintenance, and other expenses.
Please come by and grab a jar of apple butter to support your local VFD or share this post!
Also, keep an eye out for our next fundraiser!
