🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted of an increase in scam calls from individuals impersonating law enforcement officers and requesting bail money for a family member who is supposedly in jail.

These scammers are specifically targeting people who have recently had a family member in jail or who have recently been in jail themselves. They may use this information to make their calls seem legitimate and pressure you into sending money.

Please remember:

Never provide personal or financial information over the phone to someone you do not know.

Never send money or pay bail based solely on a phone call.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency directly using an official phone number to verify the information.

Scammers can be convincing, but taking a moment to verify the situation can help protect you and your loved ones.

With the youth and early antlerless deer seasons underway, and the Nov. 7 fi****ms opener on the horizon, please take a moment to refresh yourself and your hunting partners on staying safe while using a tree stand.

Falls from tree stands are the leading cause of injury among hunters, and many can be avoided.

A few tips:
• Make sure the stand is in good working order before using it
• Climb in and out slowly, focusing on each step
• Inspect your safety harness thoroughly, and use it when you’re in the stand, as well as when you’re climbing in and out
• Always maintain three points of contact with the steps or ladder
