Today, on National Day of the Deployed, we honor the courageous men and women who have served, are currently serving, or will serve our nation.

This day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by these service members and the families who support them from home with remarkable strength and resilience.

We are especially thinking of our City of Framingham employees who are currently deployed. Your dedication, bravery, and commitment to our country inspire all of us, and we are grateful for the sacrifices you and your families make every day.

National Day of the Deployed also invites all of us to reflect on the quiet courage of the families who endure holidays, birthdays, and everyday moments apart from their loved ones.

Today, we honor their service, their resilience, and the unbreakable bonds that keep them connected across the miles.

Let’s take a moment to recognize and thank all those who serve and those who support them from home.

Brothers After War – Movie and Seminar

Movies make tough subjects easier to talk about — and the Brothers After War Seminar helps begin the conversations that matter most.

It is a powerful, evidence-informed experience designed to help veterans, service members, first responders, and their families talk about the experiences they often carry alone.

Built around the acclaimed documentary Brothers After War — directed by Jake Rademacher and executive produced by Gary Sinise — the seminar creates a safe and meaningful space to explore service, sacrifice, transition, moral injury, family, resilience, and the long road home.

Typical Schedule for the Movie and Seminar

12pm - Watch the Award-Winning Documentary film, BROTHERS AFTER WAR
2pm - Interactive, Instruction & Workbook Session with Certified Facilitators
4pm – Event Concludes

Framingham’s Autumn Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 24

FRAMINGHAM - The City of Framingham, in collaboration with the Framingham Health Department, Framingham Medical Reserve Corps, and the Framingham Police Department, will participate in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will take place in the parking lot of the Memorial Building, located at 150 Concord Street. It is a drive-thru style event.

Note: That early voting is also taking place at the Memorial Building that day.

This initiative, part of a nationwide effort led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, while also educating the public about the potential for misuse and environmental harm.

What You Can Bring

Residents are encouraged to bring:

Unused or expired prescription medications
Over-the-counter medications
Pills, capsules, tablets, and patches
Please note: Needles, sharps, liquids, thermometers, or inhalers will NOT be accepted.

Why Safe Disposal Matters

Proper disposal of medications is essential for both public safety and environmental protection. Flushing drugs down the toilet or sink may seem convenient, but it can contaminate water systems and harm aquatic life. Likewise, throwing medications in the trash without precautions can lead to accidental poisoning or misuse by children, pets, or others.

“Removing unused medications from the home reduces the risk of accidental poisoning and prevents the potential for misuse,” said Framingham Health Director William Murphy. “It’s a simple step that helps create a safer and healthier home environment.”

By participating in Drug Take Back Day, residents are taking proactive steps to:

Reduce the risk of accidental drug ingestion
Prevent prescription drug misuse and diversion
Support environmental sustainability by avoiding water contamination
“Our goal is to make it easy for people to do the right thing with leftover medications,” said Framingham Health Director Murphy.

Sponsored by the DEA, National Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a unified opportunity for communities to safely dispose of medications. Since its inception, the program has successfully collected and safely destroyed millions of pounds of prescription drugs across the country.
