With the Kentucky River, Elkhorn Creek, and numerous waterways throughout Franklin County, swiftwater rescue training is an important part of keeping our community safe.

Several of our members recently went above and beyond by attending specialized swiftwater rescue training, building their skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience to bring back to our department.

A big thank you to Off-Duty Rescue for providing the training and Tritown Township Fire Department for hosting!

We’re proud of our members who continue to invest their time in becoming better prepared to serve our community.

Our recruits also practiced blind forcible entry alongside search operations in zero-visibility conditions, focusing on door control, environmental awareness, communication, and teamwork.

Using a Halligan tool, firefighters practice forcing entry through secured doors while maintaining control of the opening. During searches, tools help extend their reach, identify obstacles, and maintain awareness of their surroundings when visibility is limited.

Search & Rescue Training 🚒

This video gives you a glimpse of what firefighters often face inside a burning building: near-zero visibility. The footage that follows shows the same environment through one of our most valuable tools, a thermal imaging camera (TIC).

Our newest recruits worked alongside experienced members, practicing search and rescue techniques in challenging conditions.

Repetition is key to building proficiency in the fire service. Every evolution strengthens confidence, teamwork, and the skills needed to operate when seconds matter.

Training like this is about more than improving individual skills. It’s about ensuring our firefighters are prepared to protect lives when our community needs them most.

We’re proud of the hard work of our recruits and the experienced members helping prepare them for the job ahead!

Franklin County Fire Department was proud to participate in the Fire Prevention Parade in historic downtown Georgetown!

It was a great opportunity to join fellow fire departments and first responders while connecting with the community and promoting fire safety.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event and to those who helped organize it. We always enjoy seeing the excitement these events bring, especially from the younger future firefighters! 🚒

Our newest group of recruits has been putting in the work, running through fireground evolutions that bring several essential skills together.

From making hydrant connections and operating the pump to pulling hose and advancing a charged line into the fire room, each evolution gives recruits an opportunity to build confidence, improve their skills, and work together as a crew.

We’re proud of the hard work and progress this group continues to show. Their improvement with each training session is a direct reflection of the effort they’re putting in. There’s still plenty to learn, but they’re building a solid foundation for their careers in the fire service!

Kentucky’s Fall Forest Fire Hazard Season begins October 1 and runs through December 15.

During this period, burning is prohibited between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. when the fire is in or within 150 feet of woodland or brushland.

As leaves begin to fall and vegetation dries out, outdoor fires can spread quickly. If you plan to burn, know the regulations, pay attention to weather and wind conditions, and never leave a fire unattended.

A little extra caution can prevent a small fire from becoming a much larger problem.
