Halloween is here, and we know some of you have big plans this weekend. Costumes, parties, and maybe a few adult beverages.

Just remember, the scariest thing you can see this Halloween isn’t a ghost, a witch, or a creepy clown. It’s blue lights in your rearview mirror after you’ve been drinking.

Our deputies have heard just about every excuse in the book, but we haven’t heard one yet that makes driving drunk a good idea.

And while we’re on the subject, a few things to remember:

Dressing up as a race car driver doesn’t mean you can drive like one.
Saying you only had “a couple” isn’t a magic spell that makes a breathalyzer disappear.
If you drink enough to start thinking you’re Batman, please remember that even Batman has Alfred to drive him home.
And if you end up in the back of a patrol car, we can assure you the handcuffs aren’t part of your Halloween costume.

We want everyone to have a fun and safe Halloween, but the only spirits you should be seeing on the road are the ones wearing bedsheets.

The candy is free. The ride to jail might be free. Everything after that gets expensive.

Yesterday the Macon County Detention Center partnered with local churches and organizations to have EIGHT INMATES BAPTIZED.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office wishes for rehabilitation and successful reintegration into the community for all inmates. This is just one step to these people changing their life paths and becoming successful members of Macon County.

Thank you to Cowee Church, Restoration Church, the men’s group and women’s group and all others who have made this day possible.

Macon County Sheriff’s Office Equipment Update

Last week, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit received new equipment and technology, including fi****ms, red dot sights, weapon lights, and holsters. These purchases were made using asset forfeiture funds, helping minimize the impact on county funds while ensuring our deputies have the tools necessary to perform their duties effectively.

The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to maintaining and updating equipment to provide the highest level of service and protection to the citizens of our community.

Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office recently acquired mobile Starlink units and a new crime scene camera through a partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service. Each year, the U.S. Marshals Service partners with local law enforcement agencies to conduct s*x offender registry compliance operations. As part of this partnership, the U.S. Marshals Service provided funding for the purchase of this technology.

These mobile Starlink units will provide valuable connectivity in the field, supporting operations and helping our deputies carry out their duties more efficiently.

Yesterday we asked you to pray for one of our own. We want to share a little more with you today.

Driver Engineer Chuck Norton suffered a heart attack yesterday. He was airlifted from Angel Medical Center in Franklin to Mission Hospital in Asheville.

Chuck has been having serious trouble with his breathing. His doctors are working to stabilize that before taking him to the cath lab to examine his heart and determine what treatment he may need.

To know Chuck is to love him. He’s the guy who can make you smile or laugh even on your worst day. If you’ve spent any time around him, you know that sense of humor we’re talking about.

Chuck has his family with him, including his wife and his babies. Please continue to pray for our brother and his family, and for the doctors and nurses taking care of him.

The family has no other needs at this time. As they allow, we will keep everyone posted on how Chuck is doing and let you know if anything is needed.

From Chuck’s family and all of us at Franklin Fire & Rescue, we cannot thank everyone enough for the love and support you have shown since yesterday. Please keep those prayers coming!

On 10/20/2026, Macon County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Macon County Schools for the First Annual Parent Internet Safety Event to learn how to protect children online. This informative class taught parents what to look for, how to better communicate with their children, what to do if they become a victim online, and other safety tips. The Sheriff’s Office values the safety of our children and this class is just one piece of protecting the children of Macon County. After the class, agencies were present to provide resources and answer questions. We want to thank Department of Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Macon Child Collaborative, REACH, and Kids Place Children’s Advocacy Center for coming and being a valuable asset to the safety of the children of our community. Thank you to all the detectives that put hours of work into this event. We also want to thank those who promoted this event and those who showed up as resources last night. This is just the beginning of events to educate Macon County of online dangers. Stay tuned for another event for the entire family to learn what to look out for online and how to protect the children of our community from these dangers. If you are interested in having the Macon County Sheriff’s Office present this educational class to your community group, church, school, or other agency, please contact Detective Sergeant Anthony Zari at 828-349-2076 or [email protected].

On Friday, October 16, the Macon County Sheriff's Office received information from a creditable outside agency regarding the possible misuse of the License Plate Reader (LPR) system by an employee of the Sheriff's Office. Upon receiving this information and after careful review, the deputy was immediately placed on administrative leave, and an internal investigation was initiated.

After a thorough internal affairs investigation by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Detective, the investigation concluded that the complaint was founded. After conclusion of the internal affairs investigation, Sheriff Brent Holbrooks determined that the appropriate course of action was termination of the employee, Jonathan Bean.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office takes the appropriate use of its technology and resources seriously. Misuse of any kind will not be tolerated, and all allegations of misconduct will be addressed promptly and appropriately.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to maintaining public trust, accountability, and the integrity of its operations.
