We're wrapping up a busy October with New Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Member Orientation this morning! 🥳💙

Our Etowah County MDT brings together professionals from various disciplines who share one common goal: protecting children, supporting families, and working together to ensure every child receives the care and response they deserve.

This orientation provides an opportunity for our newest MDT members to learn more about the collaborative work that goes into investigating these cases and serving vulnerable victims. We strive to ensure that every person on our team is prepared to uphold our MDT mission- to provide hope, healing, and justice for child victims.

We are so grateful for our community partners and their commitment to making a difference. Strong partnerships build stronger teams, and stronger teams lead to better outcomes for children! 💙

💙 Earlier this month, The Barrie Center had the opportunity to visit several Etowah County Schools to provide mandatory reporter training to faculty.

We are grateful to the educators and staff who took the time to learn more about recognizing the signs of child abuse, understanding their responsibilities as mandatory reporters and knowing how to respond when a child may be experiencing abuse or neglect. Every school employee has an important role in helping protect children.

A special thank you to Southside High School, Southside Elementary School, John S. Jones Elementary School, Rainbow Middle School, Sardis High and Sardis Middle School for welcoming us and partnering with The Barrie Center.

We appreciate your commitment to creating safe environments where children can learn, grow and thrive. Together, we can continue promoting hope, healing and justice for children throughout Etowah County. 💙

📱 Parents and caregivers, your voice matters!

Governor Kay Ivey signed Executive Order No. 745 this summer, establishing the Governor’s Commission on Screen-Based Instruction to study the use, risks, and benefits of screen-based instruction in Alabama’s K-12 classrooms and provide evidence-based recommendations.

As a children's advocacy center, we are committed to promoting child safety, strengthening families, and supporting prevention efforts in our community. We recognize the importance of understanding how technology impacts children and ensuring that parents and caregivers have a voice in decisions that affect their children’s well-being, safety, and education.

We encourage parents and caregivers to take the survey and share their perspectives on how screens are used in schools. Your input can help inform recommendations that shape the future of education in Alabama!
