Good Morning Residents,

Great News, the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted!

Thank you again for all your patience and understanding.

02/25/2026

Official Public Notice: Boil Water Advisory Effective Immediately!

At approximately 6:00 p.m. last night, a major water main break occurred at the intersection of West and Spring Street. Due to the magnitude of the break, our crews spent the night excavating and managing valve gates to control the flow. We are pleased to report that the water is now sufficiently under control for repair work to begin.

Current Boil Water Advisory
Effective immediately, a Boil Water Advisory is in place for residents in the following vicinities:
• Spring Street
(from West Street Frontage Road)
• West Street
(from Fulton Street to Grand Street)
• North Water Street
Residents in all areas of the City of Gloversville, may experience a total loss of water, low pressure, or discoloration. These conditions are expected following a leak of this scale. We anticipate repairs to be completed, and service should be fully restored by later today.

During a Boil Water Advisory, water used for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least one minute and then cooled before use. Once the leak is fully repaired, you may need to run your cold water for a short period of time to clear up. We will notify the public when the boil water advisory has been lifted.

We also wish to clarify that this incident is entirely separate from the leak reported earlier this week involving a severed six-inch sprinkler line in a vacant building on Burr Street. That previous leak resulted in significant water loss (approximately 1 million gallons per day). Reason being, the water was diverted directly into a catch basin rather than surfacing.

The previous leak did NOT affect the quality of the city’s water.
Residents will NOT see an increase in their water bills as a result of that unmetered loss.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the community for your patience and understanding during these emergency repairs. We are especially grateful to the kind individuals who provided coffee and food to our crew members throughout the night.

Finally, I want to recognize the dedicated staff of the Gloversville Water Department: our plant operators who worked through the night continuing to make water, our transmission and distribution team who labored in unfavorable temperatures, and our office staff for their continued support in managing this situation.

For further information, please contact the Gloversville Water Works at (518) 773-4520.

Thank you
Superintendent Eric Lentini
