HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE GOODLETTSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT!

The Goodlettsville Police Department wishes everyone in our wonderful community a fun, safe, and Happy Halloween!

As you head out for trick-or-treating, Halloween parties, and other festivities, we want to remind everyone to take a few extra precautions to keep the night safe for all.

🚔 A FEW HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS:

🎃 For Trick-or-Treaters:

Always have an adult accompany young children.

Stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing the street.

Look both ways before crossing and never assume a driver sees you.

Carry a flashlight or glow stick and wear reflective clothing.

🚗 For Drivers:

Slow down and be extra alert in neighborhoods.

Watch carefully for children crossing streets and walking between parked vehicles.
Avoid distractions and put your phones away.

Be especially cautious during peak trick-or-treating hours.

Let's all do our part to make sure everyone gets home safely and has a night full of great memories!

Our officers will be out and about keeping an eye on our community, and we encourage everyone to look out for one another.

Have fun, stay alert, and make safe choices!

From our police family to yours, have a SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN, Goodlettsville!

K-9 ATHENA: TWO MONTHS OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

The Goodlettsville Police Department is proud to recognize K-9 Athena and the incredible work she has accomplished in just her first two months on the job!

In a short amount of time, Athena has already made a meaningful impact on our community with the following results:

8 deployments, 4 arrests and 1 stolen fi***rm recovered

These accomplishments are a great example of the important role our K-9 teams play in helping keep our community safe. In just eight weeks, Athena has proven to be a valuable asset to the Goodlettsville Police Department and the City of Goodlettsville.

Behind every successful K-9 team is dedication, training, teamwork, and a strong bond between handler and partner. Athena's early success reflects the hard work and commitment that go into protecting our citizens and supporting our officers in the field.

We are excited to see what the future holds for Athena as she continues to grow, learn, and serve alongside her fellow officers. Please join us in celebrating K-9 Athena and the positive impact she is already making in our community!

Great work, Athena!

Last night was a special evening for the Goodlettsville Police Department as we celebrated the graduation of our Citizens Police Academy participants during the City of Goodlettsville Commission meeting!

We are incredibly grateful to each participant who dedicated their time to learning more about our department, our officers, and the many responsibilities that come with serving our community. What made this class so special was not just the knowledge shared, but the friendships formed, the conversations had, and the relationships built along the way. These connections are what make programs like this so meaningful!

We would also like to extend a sincere thank-you to our Mayor, Vice Mayor, City Commissioners in attendance, and our newly appointed City Manager, Julie High, for joining us in celebrating this wonderful group. Your support of programs that bring our community and police department closer together means so much!

A big thank-you goes to all the officers and detectives who took the time to share their knowledge, experiences, and expertise throughout the academy. Your willingness to open the doors of our department and give participants a closer look at what we do each day helps build understanding, trust, and meaningful connections.

At the Goodlettsville Police Department, we know that community policing is about more than responding to calls — it is about building relationships, earning trust, and getting to know the people we serve. The Citizens Police Academy gives us an opportunity to connect beyond the badge, learn from one another, and continue building a stronger relationship between our department and the community we proudly serve.

To our graduates, congratulations! Thank you for being part of this experience and for allowing us to get to know you. The academy may be complete, but the friendships and connections made along the way are just beginning. You will always have a place in the GPD family!

Here’s to continuing to build relationships, strengthen trust, and make Goodlettsville an even better place to live, work, and call home!

Coffee with a Cop was a great success!

The Goodlettsville Police Department would like to give a big thank you to McDonald’s at 304 Long Hollow Pike for welcoming our officers and community members for Coffee with a Cop!

There’s something special about sitting down over a cup of coffee and simply getting to know one another. Our officers enjoyed meeting members of the community, having great conversations, answering questions, sharing a few laughs, and building relationships outside of the typical calls for service.

Events like this are a reminder that community engagement matters. The relationships we build with the people we serve help create trust, open communication, and a stronger community for everyone.

We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by, spent some time with our officers, and shared a cup of some awesome coffee with us!

And a special thank you to the McDonald’s team for being such a great community partner. We appreciate you helping us bring our officers and community together!

We’ll see you at the next cup!

Citizens Police Academy — Final Night!

What a great way to wrap up another Citizens Police Academy! Our final night gave participants an inside look at some of the equipment and training our officers use every day.

Deputy Chief DeLoach, Lt. Kinnaird, and Ofc. Biggers spent the evening with the group discussing police equipment, Taser use, and the decision-making that goes into some of the most challenging situations officers may encounter.

Participants also got the opportunity to experience virtual reality training and hands-on scenario-based training. These exercises allowed the group to step into the shoes of an officer and see firsthand how different decisions can lead to different outcomes. It was a great opportunity to better understand the training, judgment, and split-second decisions that are part of the job.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated in this Citizens Police Academy and took the time to learn more about our department and the men and women who serve our community. Building relationships and creating a better understanding between our officers and the community is something we truly value.

Thank you to Deputy Chief DeLoach, Lt. Kinnaird, Ofc. Biggers, and everyone who helped make this academy a success!

Throwback Thursday!

Today, we’re taking a look back at 2008 and celebrating someone whose heart for helping others has always been bigger than her job title.

Yesterday, we said goodbye to an incredible chapter as Talisa Cowden retired after 23 years of dedicated service with the Goodlettsville Police Department, working alongside four different Police Chiefs throughout her remarkable career.

For more than two decades, Talisa has been a familiar and much-loved part of the Goodlettsville community. She has served with kindness, compassion, and a genuine love for people. She has always had a way of taking care of everyone around her — often like they were her own children.

And this throwback photo from 2008 is a beautiful reminder that Talisa’s heart for helping others has never been limited by a city line. Here she is helping Macon County residents following a devastating tornado, giving her time, her energy, and her compassion to people who needed it most.

That’s simply who Talisa is.

She is loving. She is kind. She is caring. She shows up. And for 23 years, she has poured those qualities into the Goodlettsville Police Department and the community she served.

Talisa, your dedication has touched so many lives, and your absence will be felt deeply. We are incredibly grateful for every year, every smile, every helping hand, and every person you cared for along the way.

Goodlettsville has been blessed to have you.

Congratulations on your retirement, Talisa! We hope you know just how much you are loved, appreciated, and going to be missed.

Here’s to a well-deserved new chapter — and to a lifetime of memories made along the way.
