For those of you who have been around for a while, you surely ran into Nita Grignol. She was a fierce advocate not just for her son but for all people with developmental disabilities. Hermitage will miss her greatly!

Congratulations to Thomas for advocating for people with Down Syndrome at the Board of Supervisors meeting yesterday!

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors recognized October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Thomas Gardner, who has Down syndrome and is an advocate for the community, told the Board during its work session that he felt like “a part of Henrico.”

At the regular meeting, the Board awarded contracts for multiple projects, including the construction of Phase 1 of the Lakeside Community Trail. That phase will provide a 3,500-foot-long trail stretching from Spring Park to the intersection of Dumbarton Road and Gillespie Avenue.

Once all phases are completed, the trail will be part of the Fall Line Trail that runs from Ashland to Petersburg.
