Before Coming: Hydrate, Eat Well, Sleep Well!

That's the checklist our medical students lettered onto a poster at Coast Regional Blood Center's workshop back in September, right under DONATE TODAY, next to a hand-drawn sugar skull and the date: Nov. 2nd 2026. That date is Monday now.

Gulf Coast sets up on our campus Monday from 9:00 to 3:00. Grab a time at tinyurl.com/PHS-Blood, or use sponsor code PHS2 at giveblood.org. Anyone 17 or older can sign up on their own. Sixteen-year-olds need a parent-signed consent form from our front office, and it must be back before Monday, so tomorrow is the day to pick one up. Bring a photo ID. Every donor goes home in a Gulf Coast crewneck.

Last year this campus gave 32 pints. The poster also says "always give 100% in everything you do," and we'd like to take it at its word.

Thirty-two is the number to beat.

Teacher/Student Swap Day kicked off Spirit Week. Students dressed as their teachers, teachers dressed as their students, and nobody knew who was who.

Ask around our building about how people found Premier, and you'll hear one answer more than any other. Somebody told them.

An aunt who'd heard about the on campus WorkTexas Electrical Program. A coworker whose son is enrolled in the Premier High Schools CULINARY INSTITUTE LENOTRE culinary arts program . A neighbor at a Saturday game who said, you should look at Premier.

So here's our ask. If a student comes to mind while you're reading this, somebody who needs school to look different, tell their family about us.

Here's what they'd find. Five pathways run in this building: Welding, Electrical, Medical/CMA certification, Workforce Readiness, and Culinary with Culinary Institute Lenotre. Students earn real certifications on a flexible schedule, TEA rates this campus an A (up two letter grades this year), and we have seats open RIGHT NOW.

Last week, I was honored to be the recipient of the American Welding Society (AWS ), WEMCO Excellence in Welding Award at FABTECH 2026!

Trades education is a lot more than just learning a skill. It's about helping students discover their potential, build confidence, earn industry-recognized credentials, and see opportunities for their futures.

At Premier High Schools, we're connecting classroom learning with real-world skills and career opportunities. Seeing our students develop their abilities, compete at the state level, and take steps toward careers in the skilled trades reminds us why this work matters.

I'm especially grateful to the volunteers of organizations like the Texas High School Welding Series (TXHSWS), which help high school welders challenge themselves, showcase their skills, and connect their education to the welding industry. These experiences make a lasting difference for our students and help build the next generation of skilled professionals.

Thank you to WEMCO and the AWS for this recognition, and to the educators, industry partners, and supporters who continue to invest in welding education and our students' futures.

Premier Medical Clinic opened for business, and nobody in the waiting room had an appointment. Just in time for Certified Medical Assistants Recognition Week!

Ms. Keller's Medical students built the clinic out of their classroom: a check-in desk with a laptop, chairs for a waiting room, a patient on the exam table who was a classmate. Then they ran it, in masks and nitrile gloves, with a student at every station.

Our director's review, in full: "SO TOTALLY COOL!!"

The timing is great. This is CMA Recognition Week, and Ms. Keller is the real thing herself, a Certified Medical Assistant and a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. What her students practiced that morning is the work an MA does at any clinic in Houston on any Tuesday, from the first hello at the desk to the last chart note.

Happy MA Week to Ms. Keller and to every future MA in that room. 🩺

On Monday, Russell Smith left Corpus Christi with his wife to hand-deliver a pair of custom-made safety glasses, ground to Evelyn C.'s exact prescription.

Russell Smith has been a pillar in the welding community for decades. He helped organize some of the first high school welding competitions in Corpus Christi. His programs helped develop some of the current leaders and instructors who train our students today.

Mr. Russell Smith sits on the board of the Texas High School Welding Series and leads its Vision Program, which gets custom prescription safety eyewear to students entering the trades.

Russell learned that a welder at Premier High School, certified SIX TIMES by American Welding Society inspectors, was struggling with her vision and safety eyewear. Without hesitation, Russell worked with Mr. Tim to set up Evelyn's eye exam at a local clinic of her choice. He handled the fitting, oversaw lens manufacturing, and then gifted the finished pair to her on campus.

With Russell's help, Evelyn no longer fumbles with traditional safety glasses or everyday prescription glasses. This removes a barrier for thousands of young tradesmen and women. Through the Valero Vision Program, we now have students exceeding their previous welding performance with better sight and awareness. Russell's dedication to growing our industry with skilled workers continues through his network and the TXHSWS.

Thank you for making this possible. It's just one more example of how the welding community supports each other in so many different ways. That's Premier!

On Monday, November 2, we will have two kinds of giving in our building that morning.

For Día de los Mu***os, families set up a table for the people they miss, with their photographs, marigolds, a candle, and the food they loved; this year, Premier High School GFN is setting one up for our whole school. Students, staff, families: if you've lost someone, their photo belongs on it. Todos son bienvenidos.

The other is a blood drive. Gulf Coast Blood Center sets up on our campus from 9:00 to 3:00 that day, sharing space with WorkTexas and Gallery Furniture.

One table keeps the people we lost close. The other gives somebody else's family more time with theirs.

The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA) invited us again to its GHBA 24th Annual Homebuilding & Remodeling Expo held at the Sam Houston Race Park Pavilion. Premier High School students from Mr. Gibbs' Electrical Class received full VIP treatment, including welcome kits and plenty of swag! Along with our friends at WorkTexas, exhibitors talked to our students like they were the next crew on the job.

At the Savant booth, they leaned in to learn about a lit-up smart panel. They talked with staff at the Copperweld booth while being shown innovative new techniques of bringing aluminum and copper together in cabling. Mr. Gibbs, who has run Lighthouse Electric of Texas since 2004, worked the room right beside them.

GHBA treated them like VIPs, too, with gift bags, goodies, and lunch for students who were eager to imagine their future careers in the trades.

The buckets said "Go Build Something." That seems like the right instruction.

To everyone at GHBA who stopped to talk shop with a student on Thursday: thank you. Mr. Tim came back saying how grateful he was to have partners like this, and honestly, our students get the best end of that deal.

Careers in Energy Week starts with an opportunity to learn from people already in the industry. That's Premier!

Astros Hall of Famer Craig Biggio visited our students on September 17. His message was short: keep it up; he's really proud of you.

Then he headed out back for some parking-lot baseball with Mack and the Gallery Furniture crew.

Mack sat down with him for a video on his own page, too. Craig Biggio knows the value of learning a skill you can use for the rest of your life.
