⚡ Six years ago, a young electrician helped wire the very shop our Premier High School students train in today....

Yesterday, that same man — now Hays Electrical’s Field Operations Manager — walked back into it to speak directly to our students. What a full-circle moment! ⚡

What started as a random idea in the middle of the day turned into one of the best class experiences we’ve had all year.

From the wonderful receptionist who didn't dismiss my unexpected call, to Oriana Olivo, who quickly looped in the right people, to Martin Jaquez, who showed up shortly after, excited and ready — they made it happen in a matter of hours.

Martin shared real talk about the electrical trade: the challenges, the rewards, the pride in work that matters (schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure that keep communities running). Martin also shared his own personal journey, which wasn't very different from what our young tradesmen and women face today. Our students were locked in — asking smart questions about the work, the path forward, pay, benefits, and what a real career looks like. They especially lit up hearing about the hands-on side and the problem-solving that comes with it.

He also highlighted what Hays is building for the next generation through their 5K Electrical Apprenticeship Program (a U.S. Department of Labor-registered program in partnership with 5K Training & Development). It offers real training, hands-on experience, pre-fab work in the shop, and credited hours toward a Journeyman license. Exactly the kind of opportunity these students need to see.

A huge thank you to:
- Hays Electrical Services — Martin, Oriana, the whole team — for dropping everything and showing up with such heart. Your commitment to growing the next generation of electricians is inspiring.

- Premier High School at Gallery Furniture for the space and support that make programs like this possible.

- ResponsiveEd for the incredible work they do connecting students to real opportunities and futures in the trades.

We’re already excited about what’s next — more visits, joint events with Hays apprentices, and building real pathways for our students and WorkTexas adults.

When a company responds this quickly and cares this much about the future of the trades, you jump on it. Days like yesterday restore a lot of faith.

Thank you, Hays — we see you, and we’re committed to paying it forward. Let’s keep building this together! 🙌

Today is School Lunch Hero Day.

But at Premier, it's about everything else, too.

Walk into the cafeteria at Premier High School GFN on any given morning, and you'll find Ms. Lindsy Arrambide running the entire show. Breakfast. Lunch. Supplies. Ordering. Budget. Nutritional standards. STAAR-morning warm meals. Special events. The whole program — one person, top to bottom.

For more students than the world realizes, the meals she serves are the ones they can count on.

This morning, the campus turned the tables on her. Staff across the building pitched in to put up a hand-drawn banner — Camp Lindsy / Our Camp Queen / Thank you for ALL you do!!! — built around her love of camping and the outdoors. Ms. Dina Arguello carried the artwork. The team carried the rest.

Around the banner, a wall of Post-it notes.

A few:
"You are like a mom I never had. You give me so many compliments and advice that helps me with my self-esteem and real-life situations. Thank you for always being a mom we needed."

"Thank you for cooking always for me, and always giving me chocolate milk." — Eric

"You are the BERRY best." — Delilah

"Thank you for going above and beyond for us, Ms. Lindsy."

The staff added a card and a group gift card — a small thanks for someone who has spent the year running an entire nutrition program by herself.

The kitchen Lindsy uses exists because of Jim Mcingvale and the Gallery Furniture team — fully equipped, ready every morning. They made the room. Lindsy made it home.

🍳 At Premier, lunch isn't a cafeteria line.

It's a person. And we love her. Thank you Ms. Lindsy

⚡ Flip the switch… and it just works - But no one talks about what it takes to make that true.

At the Wiess Energy Hall inside the Houston Museum of Natural Science, our Electrical students got the full picture.

Wind turbines. Refineries. Cooling towers. Transmission lines. The Houston skyline lit up like a circuit board.

Every system needs someone who knows how to keep it alive.

Mr. Gibbs — Master Electrician and WorkTexas Instructor — found the exhibit and built the day around it. Eight students made the trip: Angelina, Woods, Bradwin, Jayden, Julian, Demetrio, Josearmando, and Pedro.

They sat in a moving simulator that dropped them down a wellbore. They stood under industrial drill bits the size of their torsos, rotating overhead. They walked through Houston's energy infrastructure, laid out as a working model.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a top-tier museum in every respect. From the moment we pulled up — greeters at the door, seamless check-in, and staff who didn't just explain exhibits… they connected them to real careers.

🔧 The power doesn't just "come on." It's built, and that's exactly where these students are headed.

⚡ "Straightforward career path," they said…

Jayden's over here bending pipe like it's geometry with consequences.

That's a three-point saddle bend — precise angles to route conduit cleanly over an obstacle. Miss it by a degree, and the whole thing fights you.

This is the kind of work that doesn't fake it.

Under the guidance of Executive Director of Training, Tom Tynan, and Master Electrician and WorkTexas Instructor Johnny Gibbs, students are chasing Home Builders Institute - HBI PACT certification — one of only three pre-apprenticeship credentials recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Premier High School - Houston Champions student 'Woods' makes the commute to the GFN campus daily to be a part of this program!

12,000 hours to Master Electrician.
No shortcuts. No straight lines.

🔧 Tradespeople — what did your path to the field look like? Who helped you the most? Let's help them see around the bend. 👇

Premier High Schools' Trip to Houston FLEET WEEK aboard the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3)! ⚓️🚁

WHAT AN UNFORGETTABLE DAY FOR OUR PHS STUDENTS!
On April 16, 2026, Premier High Schools joined the inaugural Houston Fleet Week (Houston’s very first-ever celebration of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, April 15–22) for an exclusive, hands-on tour of the mighty USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), the flagship amphibious assault ship docked at the Port of Houston. This wasn’t just any field trip — it was a rare, invitation-only experience that gave our students a front-row seat to life aboard one of the Navy’s most versatile “floating cities.”

WHY THIS SHIP IS SO SPECIAL!

The USS Kearsarge is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship — 843 feet long, displacing over 40,500 tons, and capable of carrying a full Marine Expeditionary Unit, vehicles, landing craft, helicopters, Ospreys, and even F-35B Lightning II jets. Its standout feature? A massive floodable well deck (266 × 50 feet) at the stern. Sailors intentionally flood the bottom of the ship so Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCACs) and other amphibious vehicles can “drive” straight out and onto the shore — perfect for rapid troop and equipment deployment anywhere in the world. Above that is a full flight deck and hangar bay. It’s part aircraft carrier, part Marine transport, and 100% awe-inspiring.

Our students rotated through breakout stations led by Sailors and Marines covering everything from navigation and weapons systems to medical/dental support, firefighting/SCBA gear, trauma care, protective vests and helmets, IT/comms, and the engineering that keeps this city-at-sea running 24/7. They even got to try on real gear and watch live demos!

HOW LUCKY ARE WE?

Houston Fleet Week 2026 is historic — the city’s first time hosting this national tradition. While the public got limited tours, PHS received special group access for students and youth programs. Our kids walked the flight deck, explored the hangar filled with international signal flags, stood at the open well-deck hatch with the Gulf breeze blowing in, and connected directly with the men and women who serve. Moments like these build pride, inspire careers, and remind us all of the dedication behind our nation’s defense.

A huge thank you to the USS Kearsarge crew, the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, Port of Houston, and Fleet Week Houston organizers for making this possible!

PHS students — you represented us with curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm. We’re so proud of you!

This morning, we tried something a little different.

Our English 1 kids had a long, quiet day of STAAR testing ahead of them — first day back after a four-day Easter weekend. We knew they were probably still half-asleep and not exactly excited about hours of testing silence. So a bunch of us got together and pulled off a simple morning reset for them.

We mapped it all out: fresh-cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs, waffles, juice — the works), a spin-the-wheel for showing up, some tic-tac-toe with bean bags, stationary bikes with an Italy bike ride on the projector and a big fan for the “wind,” a large breakfast table, chess, UNO, Connect Four, a big 9 Square setup… anything to get their blood pumping and their brains waking up before they had to sit down and lock in.

It wasn’t fancy and definitely not perfect. But it was us saying: We See You, We know this week is tough, and We’re in it with YOU!

Huge thanks to our very own Child Nutrition Program Leader, Ms. Lindsy Arrambide; our School Campus Secretary, Munoz; and CTE admin Tim Keener, who stepped up to contribute; and especially Director Jill Wright, for always pushing us to think about what real support and success actually look like for our students.

These kids have been grinding in small groups, one-on-ones, and refreshers for weeks. We just wanted to give them a little momentum this morning.

Proud of them for showing up and giving it their best. Thankful to have a group of caring adults to help them succeed.
