South Huntington’s resident superwoman marathon runner Madison Skelton has done it again! She ran the New York City Marathon (smiling as usual) for the second year in a row on November 1st in 4 hours and 4 minutes. Running 26.2 miles is challenging enough, but doing it with Type 1 diabetes - she was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago - is an entirely different level of strength, planning, and resilience.

Ms. Skelton, who is our JV Field Hockey Head Coach, ran with the Beyond Type 1 Marathon Team (aka Beyond Type Run) to raise money to support diabetes education and increase affordability for medical supplies. She also served as a peer running coach to support other runners with diabetes on ways to manage their condition while training and during the marathon itself. November is Diabetes Awareness Month.

And she’s not slowing down! Coach Skelton is co-captaining the “Type ONE-der Women” team of 50 Type 1 diabetic (T1D) runners at the Every Woman’s Marathon in New Orleans in February to raise awareness for women running with T1D. She is also running the Los Angeles Marathon in March in memory of her cousin Jennifer, who passed away from ovarian cancer at age 27. Finally, she will tackle the London Marathon in the spring to raise money for Make-A-Wish, inspired by her brother who was a Make-A-Wish recipient.

Congratulations, Ms. Skelton, and we wish you the very best in all your upcoming races! 🏅🏃‍♀️👟

South Huntington is celebrating Digital Citizenship week, November 2-6. We are proud to recognize Ava Dubey for winning the New York State Digital Citizenship Poster Contest in 2025. Competing against more than 600 students across New York State, Ava submitted her entry alongside all other 8th grade students October 2025. Her design featured a powerful message on digital literacy, reminding students to critically evaluate online content to determine fact from fiction.

We sincerely thank Stimson Librarian Susan Teeter and 6–12 Instructional Tech Coach Cheryl Irizarry for their collaborative work with our 7th and 8th-grade students as they learn to navigate the online world as stellar digital citizens.
