💜 Hospice is about living, not dying.

On this episode of Boomers Today, host Frank Samson talks with Gina Harris of MiraSol Health about common misconceptions surrounding hospice and how it can help patients and families focus on comfort, dignity, and meaningful time together.

When a parent or loved one needs more support, families can quickly find themselves trying to compare dozens of communities while answering difficult questions:

✿ What level of care is appropriate?
✿ Which communities should we consider?
✿ What fits our budget?
✿ Where will Mom or Dad feel comfortable?
✿ What questions should we ask during a tour?

Senior Care Authority provides personalized senior living placement assistance, helping families understand their options and identify communities that fit their loved one’s individual needs.

The best time to make a care plan is before you urgently need one.

A fall. A hospitalization. A sudden diagnosis. A caregiver who can no longer manage everything alone.

Too often, these moments are when families first begin discussing long-term care.
Planning earlier gives families something incredibly valuable: 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲.

☑️Time to research.
☑️Time to talk.
☑️Time to understand preferences.
☑️Time to consider resources.
☑️Time to make thoughtful decisions together.

You don’t need to predict exactly what the future will bring. You can simply be better prepared for it.

Some of the most important family conversations happen long before they’re needed.

During National Estate Planning Awareness Week, consider whether your family knows where important documents are located and understands your loved one’s wishes.

Estate planning can involve more than financial assets. Conversations may also include healthcare wishes, powers of attorney, advance directives and who should be involved if an older adult can no longer make certain decisions independently.

Having these conversations early can help everyone understand a loved one’s preferences and responsibilities.

➡️ Senior Care Authority can help families navigate the broader care-planning conversations that often accompany aging. Medicare Open Enrollment is also a good time to think beyond next year’s health plan. As families review Medicare coverage during Open Enrollment, there’s another important question worth asking:

If a senior loved one needed ongoing help with everyday activities, how would we provide, and pay for, that care?

Many families are surprised to learn that Medicare generally does not cover ongoing personal care when help with activities such as bathing, dressing or using the bathroom is the primary need. That makes it important to understand the difference between healthcare coverage and planning for potential long-term care needs.

Use this time to talk about what support is already needed, what family members can realistically provide, financial resources and long-term care insurance, and whether your loved one would prefer to remain at home or consider a senior living community if needs change.

Behind every care plan is a person, and often a family trying to make sense of many moving pieces. During Case Management Week, we recognize professionals who help individuals and families coordinate care, communicate across providers and navigate complex healthcare needs.

Families caring for an aging loved one often find themselves performing many of these same tasks: scheduling appointments, communicating with providers, researching resources and determining what needs to happen next.

They don’t have to navigate every decision alone.
