Eliza A. Blaker Elementary School #55 is part of Indianapolis Public Schools and located on the near Blaker School #55 was dedicated on May 22, 1958.
Blaker, 1854-1926, was the first Superintendent of the Indianapolis Free Kindergarten. As the founder of Teachers College of Indianapolis, she inspired hundreds of kindergarten and elementary teachers. After her death, the Teachers College became the Elementary Education department of Butler University. She was known and loved as a teacher, educator, and outstanding citizen.

As part of our partnership with Butler University, students from the College of Education spend many hours teaching and learning in our Butler Lab Schools!
Depending on which year they are in their training, this can look like observing in classrooms, working with small groups, student teaching, or collaborating on project work.
