Dan Bailey:
My name is Dan Bailey and I'm running for Warren County Soil and Water Conservation Commissioner. My wife Carol and I have lived in Warren County (Indianola) since 1986. We raised our two children, Joe and Katie, here - both attended Indianola Public Schools. The outdoors and environment have long been my interests beginning in my early years growing up on the farm. From there I went on to receive a BS Degree in Forestry, from Michigan Technological University, and MS Degree in Soil Science, from Michigan State University.

I will bring a lifetime of professional experience to the table. My career began as a Soil Scientist with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. I classified and mapped soils for the National Soil Survey. I also worked with soil nitrification inhibitors as a means to improve nitrogen fertilizer efficiency in corn and reduce nitrate loss through leaching and runoff into surface waters. The majority of my career has been in the seed industry as an agronomist working with farmers across central and southern Iowa. I also started a small seed business in 2004, AgVenture ProLine Genetics LLC.

I am personally committed to effective resource management for future generations and protecting our environment. I have been using no-till and cereal rye cover crop on my own farm...learning the best managment practices to make the sytem work.

I would be proud to serve as Soil and Water Conservation Commissioner and would appreciate your vote in the upcoming general election.

Farm Discovery Camp Explores Soil Health and Water Quality at Bank Swallow Bend

The Warren County Farm Bureau continued its 2026 Farm Discovery Camp series on June 15 with a visit to Bank Swallow Bend in partnership with the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District.

Families from across Warren County gathered for a morning of hands-on learning focused on soil health, water quality, and conservation.

Participants explored the important role natural resources play in agriculture and everyday life through a variety of interactive activities and demonstrations.

Guests learned about the different layers of soil and created their own edible "soil snacks" to better understand soil composition and the importance of healthy soils. Participants also had the opportunity to explore an EnviroScape model, where they discovered how everyday actions can impact water quality and learned practical ways to help protect lakes, streams, and rivers from pollution.

Representatives from the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District shared their expertise through a rainfall simulation demonstration and discussions about conservation practices used to improve soil health and protect water resources. Youth and adults alike gained a greater appreciation for the connections between agriculture, conservation, and environmental stewardship.

Farm Discovery Camps are designed to provide youth and families with hands-on opportunities to learn about agriculture, natural resources, and local organizations through engaging educational experiences. The camps are offered free of charge and showcase the people and programs that help strengthen Warren County communities.

The Warren County Farm Bureau extends its sincere appreciation to the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District for partnering on the event and sharing their knowledge with attendees. Their commitment to conservation education and support of youth learning opportunities helped make the camp both informative and enjoyable.

The Farm Discovery Camp series will continue in July with visits to the Southeast Warren FFA Animal Learning Center and Jenkins Garden Market.

Warren County Farm Bureau looks forward to welcoming families as they continue to explore, learn, and grow through agriculture and conservation.
