Palm treatments to restrict Ho‘omaluhia pedestrian access November 2–4, 2026

In the continued effort to mitigate the impacts of Coconut Rhinoceros Beetles (CRB) on your City parks and gardens, botanical garden staff will be working with a contractor to treat dozens of palm trees at Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden against the highly invasive pest in early November 2026.

These treatments will require the restriction of pedestrian access to the popular botanical garden, or portions thereof, beginning 4 p.m. each day from November 2 to November 4, 2026. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this tree maintenance is conducted.

Come listen, review the plan, and get your questions answered.

After months of community engagement, research, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation invites you to a public presentation of the draft Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden Long-Range Plan.

Wednesday, August 5, 2026
6:00–8:30 p.m.
Hale ʻĀkoakoa Room, Windward Community College

The draft plan reflects community input gathered since Fall 2025 and outlines a vision for:
• Enhancing the visitor experience
• Strengthening community connections and accessibility
• Preserving the garden's environmental, cultural, and historical resources
• Guiding future botanical collections, facilities, education, and visitor amenities

Since opening in 1982, the 400-acre Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden has become a treasured gathering place for Windward Oʻahu, welcoming nearly 724,000 visitors in Fiscal Year 2025. We invite you to learn about the draft plan and help shape the garden's future.
