Ulster County Habitat for Humanity Every person deserves a safe and affordable place to live. Ulster County Habitat for Humanity is a local non-profit housing organization.

Together, with our supportive community, Ulster Habitat helps families build homes, ensuring a brighter future that has been demonstrated to be multi-generational. We believe that everry one deserves a safe, affordable place to live. Our mission is to build strength, stability, and independence through homeownership. With the help of volunteers and donations from businesses and members of the community, we are able to build homes for qualified families which they purchase with an affordable mortgage. Our families contribute sweat equity/volunteer hours to the construction of the homes and participating in Homebuyer Education classes. During the process, our families become knowledgeable about home repair and maintenance and learn the financial skills needed to be a successful homeowner.

Welcome home, Tommy, Holly, Phoenix, Archer and Ruby. 🏡

On Tuesday, more than 50 people gathered to dedicate the Ramey-Nicholson family’s new home in Port Ewen. Donors, neighbors, board members, family, friends, build volunteers and ReStore volunteers all came together to celebrate the moment.

This is why we do what we do. A home is built by many hands, and this one had plenty. Thank you to all the businesses, corporations, volunteers, and individuals who gave their time and talent to this build.

Special thanks to Peggy Nau for the celebratory cake and to Drew Marallo, who logged more volunteer hours on this home than anyone else and Carolyn Hurley who came out of retirement at Ulster Habitat to get this family over the finish line.

Congratulations to the Ramey-Nicholson family. Welcome home.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Make your plan to vote!

Whatever's printed on your ballot, housing is on it. Voting is one of the most important things you can do to make our community a place where everyone can afford to live and work.

Look up your polling place and pick the time you'll go. Check whether your state offers early or mail voting, and read your sample ballot before you get there.

Have your plan yet?

Meet Sibbie.

New grandmother. Horse farmer. Property owner. Build crew regular. Sibbie contains multitudes.

Women Build 2026 ran September 22-26 at Hope Springs in Saugerties, and Sibbie was there. When her scheduled days were done, she came back. Because that is who she is.

On the build crew, Sibbie brings the kind of steady, capable energy that makes everything around her run better. She has a lot going on in her life, and she chose to give her time to this anyway.

We do not take that lightly.

Renters move at about five times the rate of homeowners, and stay in their homes about a quarter as long.

Years in one place add up on a block. Neighbors learn each other's names. Somebody notices when the porch light next door stays off. When there's a meeting about the empty lot on the corner, people show up, because they plan to still be here when something gets built on it.

That's the neighborhood we're building in Saugerties, and it starts with a home someone can afford.

Yesterday we had the honor of being part of something special in Lake Katrine.

Kathy Boughton, widow of U.S. Navy veteran John C. Boughton, received a brand new roof on her home through the Owens Corning Roofing Deployment Project, a nationwide program that has provided new roofs to more than 850 military families since 2016. Collar Roofing & Exteriors donated the labor. The Owens Corning Foundation donated the materials. And Ulster Habitat was proud to help identify and approve Kathy as the recipient.

This is what community looks like. Thank you to Green Collar Roofing and Exteriors and Owens Corning for honoring the Boughton family and for including us in this work.

Fall project season is in full swing! Come check out what's in store at the Ulster Habitat Restore.

A bench by the back door for boots. A cabinet for the basement clutter. A bigger dining room table that fits the whole family and your holiday guests. A rug for the room where everybody sits. ReStore has furniture, shelving, storage bins and lamps at a fraction of retail.
