October Employee of the Month:

Let's give a big congratulations to Elizabeth!

Elizabeth is an incredible member of our team who is always willing to lend a helping hand and go the extra mile for both her colleagues and the people we serve. Her kindness, dedication, and positive spirit make a lasting impact on everyone around her.

Outside of work, Elizabeth loves cooking, listening to music, spending time with her loved ones and dogs, and enjoying every moment of watching her child learn, grow, and thrive.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for everything you do. Your hard work and commitment are deeply appreciated, and we're so grateful to have you as part of our team!

đź’™ Our hearts are with Bend.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the school shooting in Bend, Oregon. Our thoughts are with the students, families, educators, first responders, and everyone in the community affected by this tragedy.

No student should have to fear for their safety at school, and no family should have to experience the heartbreak and uncertainty that follow an act of violence.

At Lutheran Community Services Northwest, we believe every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and connected to their community. In moments like these, it is especially important that we come together with compassion, look out for one another, and remind our youth that they are not alone.

đź’™ Resources for families, caregivers, and educators:

Talking with children and teens about a tragedy can be difficult. It is important to create space for their questions and feelings, listen without judgment, and reassure them that trusted adults are there to support them.

The Dougy Center, the National Grief Center for Children & Families, offers helpful resources on supporting children and teens after school shootings and other mass tragedies.

Please take a moment to check in with the young people in your life. Listen, offer reassurance, and remind them that it is okay to ask for help.

Our communities are strongest when we lead with kindness, connection, and care for one another. đź’™

What is Mental Health and Why Is It Important?

Mental health is our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, act, handle stress, relate to others, and make everyday decisions.

Just like we take care of our physical health, it's important to take care of our mental health too. Good mental health helps us cope with life's challenges, build healthy relationships, work toward our goals, and enjoy life more fully.

Everyone experiences ups and downs, and it's okay to ask for help when things feel overwhelming. Taking time to rest, connect with others, practice self-care, and seek support when needed are all signs of strength, not weakness.

Let's continue breaking the stigma around mental health and remind one another that it's okay to not be okay.

Your mental health matters, every day of the year.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet so many people struggle in silence. This day serves as a reminder that it's okay to ask for help, to check in on loved ones, and to make our well-being a priority.

Whether it's taking a walk, talking with someone you trust, practicing self-care, or reaching out for professional support, every step toward better mental health matters.

Let's continue working together to create a community where people feel supported, valued, and never alone in their challenges.

If you or a loved one are struggling, please remember that help is available. Call or text 988 anytime for free, confidential support.

OHP Update: Changes are coming that may affect many noncitizens and some adults ages 19–64. Be sure to review the information below to understand what these updates could mean for you and your family.

You may have seen this notice posted in some of our offices in Oregon. The federal government will require changes to OHP for many noncitizens, starting this month. In addition, some adults ages 19-64 will need to meet work or activity rules when they apply for or renew OHP, starting in 2027.
