Hancock Family Farms is an treasure in our local food community! As a multigenerational family farm in La Plata, they represent what eating local is all about: knowing where your food comes from and supporting the families who grow it.

What makes their farm so special? Every piece of meat sold through their downtown La Plata store comes from animals raised right on their family farm. They even grow the hay and feed for their own animals, bringing another level of care to their farming operation.

When you shop at Hancock Family Farms, you are supporting a local farming family, investing in our local food economy, and keeping your food dollars right here in Charles County.

Make it a point to stop by their farm store at 6 St. Mary's Avenue in La Plata, enjoy their locally raised meats, and discover the difference that local food makes!

Continues! 👯‍♀️ We love to see women supporting other women! Britt Hancock, Sheila Hancock’s daughter-in-law, submitted her for recognition for the International Year of the Woman promotion. Learning Sheila’s story demonstrates the perseverance and strength women have. 💪🏼 Thank you Britt for sharing!

From Britt Hancock: “Sheila was raised on a to***co farm and married a to***co farmer, and faced the typical tribulations of being a woman in a predominantly male dominated culture. However, she’s always been the most optimistic, kind, and hardworking person, woman or man, I have met. She faced a shifting industry with the [to***co] buyout in 2000, and inclusive of economical recessions, droughts, she has not only worked as needed on the farm, filling in gaps wherever needed, she has handled the managerial and financial aspect of Hancock Ag. But the biggest challenge by far was having to completely re-do our LLC formation due to circumstances out of her control. She practically reformed the entire business on her own, while having the confidence to ask for help when she needed it. Being able to ask for help when you really need it is a virtuous skill that Sheila practices with confidence.”

♥️ Maryland is lucky to have Sheila and her family as part of the farm family! Hancock Ag, LLC is in La Plata, Maryland in Charles County.

Governor Wes Moore has declared a 30-day state of emergency which will permit the on-road use of off-road dyed diesel specifically for agricultural and forestry hauling.

Additionally, the order also waives fees for 30-day Exceptional Hauling Permits, allowing qualifying vehicles that haul agricultural and forestry products to carry heavier loads on state highways.

This action comes days after the Maryland Farm Bureau joined Maryland Grain Producers, Maryland Forests Association, Delmarva Chicken Association, and Mid-Atlantic Soybean Association in calling on the State of Maryland to waive its restrictions on dyed diesel for agricultural use.

We greatly appreciate the state’s action to provide farmers meaningful relief as they face record-high diesel prices at harvest time.
