A FULL MOON on Monday, HALLOWEEN on Saturday, AND we turn the clocks back on Sunday! That’s three business days’ worth of craziness packed into one weekend. Whoever scheduled this weekend clearly has a sense of humor… and probably doesn’t work in public safety!

A few reminders for Saturday:

Drivers, be on the lookout for trick-or-treaters! Slow down, stay alert, and watch for little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes who may not be paying attention to traffic. This is a BIG day for them and they are excited about the goods they are ready to receive and they may not be paying attention to where they are walking or rather RUNNING.

And the next time Halloween falls on a Saturday is 2037. So let's slow down and enjoy no rushing home from work or school, no frantically throwing costumes together at the last minute, and no trying to get everyone dressed, fed and out the door in record time. We actually have time to prepare, enjoy the day, and get into the Halloween spirit without the usual weekday scramble. This is pure Halloween bliss.

And Parents, it’s never too early to teach your kids about taxes. When they get home from trick-or-treating, remind them that a portion of their candy is subject to the mandatory Parental Candy Tax. I mean we're all exhausted and hoarse from repeating, "Make sure you say Trick or Treat.", "Only take one.", and "Did you say thank you?", totally a fair tax.

We will be out and about so stop by to see us. Have a safe and happy Halloween, everyone!

On Friday, September 25th, our officers were dispatched to a working structure fire on Williams Street with reported fire coming out the window.

Within minutes of being dispatched, Patrolman Roumes arrived at the scene, followed shortly thereafter by Detective Shannon and Patrolman Dixon. Moments later, Sergeant Barbera, Corporal Strowbridge, Patrolman Trieber and Smith arrived on scene.

Patrolmen Roumes, Trieber, and Detective Shannon entered the residence and located the homeowners’ dog hiding underneath a table. Without hesitation, the officers safely rescued the dog, bringing him outside to safety.

At the same time the officers were inside, Patrolman Dixon and Smith climbed onto the roof via the deck and used a fire extinguisher to attack the fire in the bedroom. Their actions significantly knocked down the fire and Roxbury Fire Department took over extinguishing the remaining fire.

We cannot say enough about the bravery and dedication displayed by Sergeant Barbera, Corporal Strowbridge, Detective Shannon, and Patrolmen Roumes, Dixon, Trieber, and Smith. Their actions are a true reflection of the kind of officers we are proud to have serving our community. You represent the very best of our department, and we are honored to have you serving alongside us.
