A closer look at penguins is helping Highland Middle School students uncover the science behind how species change over time!

In Mr. Liu's eighth-grade science class, students worked together to analyze data on penguin characteristics spanning hundreds of thousands of years.

As part of their OpenSciEd unit on natural selection and genetics, students examined changes in physical traits across generations, using scientific evidence to better understand how species adapt and evolve.

Exploring careers and discovering possibilities for the future!

Highland Middle School eighth-graders recently attended Navig8 Lake County, a hands-on career exploration event hosted by the Lake County Regional Office of Education.

Students connected with local professionals and explored careers in healthcare, construction, technology, public service, skilled trades, food service, and more. Through interactive demonstrations, they had the opportunity to ask questions, try out real-world tools, and learn about potential career pathways.

Thank you to the Lake County Regional Office of Education and participating organizations for providing this valuable learning experience!
