Arkansas Fallen Firefighters' Memorial The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters' Memorial is located on the State Capitol Grounds. Unfortunately, some do not make it back home.

Over 18,000 firefighters protect the life, property, and natural beauty of the Great State of Arkansas. Arkansans depend on firefighters to answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Whether professional, volunteer, rural, or wild land the citizens of Arkansas rely on these men and women to be there in some of the worst times. From minor accidents, to fully involved fires, to natural disasters, to teaching fire safety, firefighters work tirelessly to assist their community. From the first recorded Arkansas firefighter killed in the line of duty in Fort Smith, on April 2, 1889 there have been 105 men and women who have given their lives to help another. The Arkansas Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial is a place of remembrance and honor for the sacrifices of the firefighters and their families. These firefighters and their families paid a price for their dedication and sacrifice, they will not be forgotten.

Conway County Judge Jimmy Hart has signed an order requesting flags to be lowered to half-staff today in honor of our fallen brother, Wes McKinney. Thank you, Judge Hart, for this wonderful tribute.

Wes passed away unexpectedly yesterday, leaving a profound void in our department and our hearts. As chair of the County Fire Board, he was a dedicated leader and a visionary whose work shaped the department we cherish today.

His body will be transported from Little Rock to Morrilton today and will be escorted by members of the emergency services community - Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire.

Thank you, Wes, for your years of selfless service to the fire service and to this community. You will be deeply missed. And thank you, Judge Hart, for this honor.

Funeral service arrangements will be shared as soon as they are available. Please keep Wes’s family and our extended fire department family in your prayers.
