The City of Lockhart is the government entity of Lockhart, Texas, representing over 14,000 residents. Lockhart was designated by the Texas Legislature as the ‘Barbecue Capital of Texas’ in recognition of its historic barbecue establishments and renowned pitmasters. 🏆 Big congratulations to our Planning Department! 🎉
The department was recognized by the American Planning Association’s Small Town and Rural (STaR) Planning Division for excellence in planning and community development for the Lockhart Looking Forward Comprehensive Plan. The 2026 award winners were announced during the National Planning Conference in Michigan.

This national recognition reflects the collective hard work, dedication, and vision of our community residents and business owners, appointed board and commission members, and elected officials who generously invested their time and expertise throughout this planning process. Their collaboration and commitment have helped create a shared vision for the future of our community and made this achievement possible. 👏

📣REMINDER: OUTDOOR WARNING SIREN TEST TODAY AT 1 P.M.
The 5-siren outdoor warning system will be used to alert Lockhart residents of impending severe weather and/or chemical emergencies. Activation criteria for the City of Lockhart includes;

• The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) issues a Tornado Warning.
• The National Weather Service (NWS) issues a Severe
Thunderstorm Warning and indicates the potential for
destructive winds of 70 mph or greater.
• Observed hail of 1.5 inches in diameter (ping pong ball) or
greater.
• Any observed weather condition, which is judged to be
hazardous to people and early warning would potentially save
lives.

This notification system is developed for Central Texas and administered by the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG). The warning system will notify citizens of Lockhart by phone call, text or email for emergencies such as: tornados, severe weather, flooding, and local emergency information.

🎆💥Lockhart Celebrates America 250! 🇺🇸 Join us on Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. for a full day of FREE family fun at the Courthouse Square, Library, and Lockhart City Park as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday!

Start the morning by decorating your bikes, scooters, wagons, strollers, and even pets for the Patriotic Parade at 9 a.m., followed by the parade around the square at 10 a.m. Enjoy the Posting of the Colors, performances by the Lockhart High School Choir and student speakers, live music by Mandy Rowden, caricatures, LED robots, face painting, a DJ, free hot dogs at the library, birthday cake, and commemorative coins while supplies last.

Activities continue at Lockhart City Park with FREE kids fishing for ages 15 and under, FREE swimming beginning at 10 a.m., vendors, music, a co****le tournament, kids activities, skydivers leading into the fireworks finale! Bring your lawn chairs, family, and patriotic spirit for an unforgettable Independence Day celebration in Lockhart!

♻️ Residents living in the unincorporated areas of Caldwell County may use the City of Lockhart Recycling Center, located at 110 N. Brazos Street in Lockhart, through September 30, 2026.

Users must first obtain a payment voucher from Lockhart City Hall, located at 308 W. San Antonio Street, prior to using the facility. At the time of payment, users must present a valid state-issued ID verifying residency in the unincorporated areas of Caldwell County.

Fees are $10 per visit for residential users and $20 per visit for commercial users. Users must also comply with all applicable recycling requirements regarding the proper separation, handling, and disposal of recyclable materials. A list of eligible recyclable materials is provided below.

Residents living in the unincorporated areas of Caldwell County may also drop off waste at the Environmental Park 130 landfill, located east of SH-130 and north of 1185 once per week.

🇺🇸 All City of Lockhart offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. Trash collection services will continue as normal. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.
