Oweesta Corporation Oweesta strengthens Native communities by supporting Native CDFIs, Tribes, and Native-led nonprofits.

For 25+ years, we’ve provided tools, training, and capital to help Native people build wealth, create jobs, grow businesses, and strengthen sovereignty. Native community development financial institutions directly provide Native American communities the tools and capital support required for real and sustainable job creation, small business development, commercial real estate development, affordable housing/home ownership while also offering basic banking services and financial literacy training to “underbanked” Native American communities who have been historically targeted by predatory lending practices. - See more at: http://www.oweesta.org/about_native_cdfi/

Oweesta’s 2026 Native Gathering and Opportunity Finance Network’s 42nd Annual Conference brought together leaders, partners, and friends for a week filled with inspiring reminders of what’s possible when we work together.

The unforgettable few days concluded with a deeply meaningful honor: Oweesta received this year's Adina Abramowitz Impact Award for Organizational Growth and Change.

For more than 25 years, we’ve worked alongside to expand economic opportunity in Native communities. This recognition celebrates Oweesta’s growth, and also the collective impact of the partners, peers, and communities who've been part of our journey.

Thank you, OFN, and thank you to all our Native and non-Native partners who believe in Native sovereignty and invest in building strong, vibrant Native economies across Indian Country. We are deeply grateful and energized for what lies ahead.

And, above all, thank you to Adina, whose legacy lives on in all of us doing the work:

“Adina was an incredible mentor, thinker, and guide. She taught a generation of CDFI leaders that reinvention is essential to growth and that strengthening our organizations is just as important as strengthening our markets. She brought her wisdom to Native CDFIs and always challenged us to do our best work on behalf of our communities. We will forever ask, ‘What Would Adina Do’ in times of challenge and opportunity.”

Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day by honoring the many distinct cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples—and the futures we are building together.

At Oweesta, we see that strength in Native entrepreneurs bringing ideas to life, Native CDFIs investing in their communities, and leaders creating opportunities for generations to come.

Supporting Native economies means investing in Native self-determination, sovereignty, and the power of our communities to shape their own futures.
Join us in celebrating today: support a Native-owned business, connect with your local Native CDFI, and uplift Indigenous voices.

An Oweesta team just wrapped our time at Wisconsin Indigenous Housing & Economic Development Corporation's Annual Conference, and we have one thing to say: Wisconsin brings it!

Wisconsin’s are a beautiful example of our community’s ingenuity, reciprocity, kindness, and integrity. They’re amazing partners to each other, working side by side and even sharing staff. When a neighbor needs a hand, someone always goes the extra mile. And because they draw on each other’s expertise and capacity, their impact goes further.

The state is all in, too. Governor Tony Evers joined participants for dinner and received an award for his dedication to Wisconsin’s Tribes. Thanks for having us, Wisconsin. We had a blast, learned so much, and are proud to have been part of your gathering.
