For 18 years, Nacho Mama’s has been more than just a lunch option at MICMS—they’ve been a part of our story.

From the excitement of Taco Tuesday to the legendary Chicken Finger Wednesday, countless students—past and present—have shared meals, laughs, and memories that will last far beyond the lunch line.

Today marked the final lunch service from Nacho Mama’s, and our MICMS community made sure it was a sendoff to remember. As Dirk wrapped up, students and staff lined the area, clapping and cheering, with some even presenting handmade cards as a heartfelt thank you. It was a moment full of appreciation, gratitude, and connection—everything that makes our school community so special.

Dirk, thank you for your kindness, your consistency, and the care you brought to our campus every single week. To all at Nacho Mama’s, your friendly service and delicious food will always be a part of MICMS memories.

Today, our campus came alive with curiosity, learning, and a shared commitment to caring for our planet. From hands-on activities to meaningful conversations, our students showed incredible engagement and enthusiasm throughout our Earth Day experiences.

We are so proud of the way our students leaned into the day; asking questions, exploring new ideas, and deepening their understanding of how they can make a positive impact on the world around them. 🌱

Join Marco Island Charter Middle School and the Marco Island Police Department in celebrating Earth Day!

The event takes place Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at MICMS. Earth Day is celebrated worldwide to promote keeping our planet clean and reducing pollution in our land and water.

This year, MICMS is focusing on preventing water contamination by encouraging the community not to dispose of expired or unwanted medications in sinks or toilets. Improper disposal can pollute drinking water for humans, animals, and the environment.

The public is invited to drive through the school’s front entrance to safely discard unwanted medications. Follow the driveway to a posted MIPD officer, who will collect the items and secure them for proper destruction.

Accepted items include: controlled substances, prescription medications (including samples), pet medications, medicated ointments and lotions, over‑the‑counter medications, vitamins, inhalers, and unopened EpiPens.

Please do not bring needles or syringes, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, IV bags, aerosol cans, iodine solutions, radioactive materials, or business waste.

Visitors can also stop by stations hosted by the Marco Island Fire Department and the Florida Division of Forestry to learn about prescribed burns and their role in protecting local wildlands.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officers will be present with a live alligator to help students understand the importance of keeping natural waters clean and healthy for wildlife.

Representatives from the Collier County Recycle Center will share information about recycling and where residents can drop off items instead of sending them to the landfill.

As participants exit, they will receive a cold bottle of water as a reminder of how vital clean water is—and how easily it can become polluted if not protected.

Note: If you cannot attend, the Marco Island Police Department offers year‑round medication disposal through Operation Medicine Cabinet on the first floor of their office.
