Today the Virgin Valley Water District hosted a tour of individuals from around the state with Nevada Water Resources Association. We tried to show the group a taste of everything WATER in Mesquite and Bunkerville. From the city’s wastewater treatment facility, and VVWD’s wells and water treatment plants, to the Mesquite Irrigation Company’s river diversion, and the City or Mesquite’s re-use system to the CasaBlanca Golf Course. We had some excellent presenters and everyone is going home with a better understanding of all things WATER in the Virgin Valley.

Just a friendly reminder that any time you get something like this in the mail, or even a phone call or email, do your due diligence. Find out who the company is behind the mailing and what their motivation is. And remember that Virgin Valley Water District tests our water regularly, and test results show that our water is safe and the results are published on our website. If you have questions, reach out to our office. We’re happy to answer any questions you might have.

Now would be a good time to check how your water bill is paid. We are making changes and we don’t want you to end up with a late, missed or double payment. If you’re not sure, reach out to our office to verify. Better safe than sorry!

What would happen if you woke up tomorrow and there was no water? This is what we asked Virgin Valley’s students to imagine as they created art for our annual “Imagine a Day Without Water” contest. The theme this year was “My Super Power Protects Water” and we received some amazing artwork from Kindergarten to High School aged kids who learned that they can all be Heroes by choosing to save and protect one of the most important things on our planet…WATER!

Q - Why did you decide to run for a position on the Water Board?

A- I’ve always cared about our community and wanted to find another way to give back. Water is one of our most important resources, and I want to help make sure we’re making good decisions for our families and future generations.

Q - What would you like to accomplish within your term, should you be elected?

A - My goal is to help keep water reliable and affordable while planning for the future. I want to listen to the community, ask the right questions, and make decisions that benefit the people who live here.

Q - What do you believe are the responsibilities of a member of the WWD Board?

A - I believe our responsibility is to represent the people, be accountable for our decisions, and make sure the district is being managed responsibly. It’s about putting the community first and doing what’s right, even when the decisions aren’t easy.

I know that a utility has sacred responsibilities to those it serves. It has to deliver its product (in our case potable water) to our customers reliably and sustainably, safely, and cost effectively. Reliably and sustainably in that life here depends on a water supply that will be available when we need it today and into the future. Safely in that we protect our customers by testing regularly to meet health standards and we protect our employees in doing their jobs. And finally cost effectively in that we keep the district solvent while maintaining costs as low as possible.
As a person who intends to finish out my days here in the Virgin Valley I am committed to all these goals.
