The 2025 annual suburban fire department run survey is here. Cuyahoga County fire departments responded to 194,296 incidents in 2025. That number would include some crossover mutual aid calls. The total is approximately a 3.2% increase from 2024.

If you'd like to do a different kind of training, try something we call "King of B Shift"

It's an exercise that gets firefighters digging really deep into random topics to see how much they can pull from memory.

Pick any member to start off as king, we try to use the previous winner. They sit up front on their "throne"

The king will pick from a list of topics. Members of the shift will ask the king questions based on that topic. If the king can't answer he is "dethroned" and the firefighter who asked the question becomes king.

You continue until everyone gets one attempt in and then a new topics is chosen.

We give the king several privileges while king, some kings are nice some rule with an iron fist 🤷🏻‍♂️ Have fun with it.

One member serves as the overseer and determines if answers to questions at correct. You must know the answer to a question before asking.

Anytime something comes up that draws questions from others, you can pause the game and work on the topic at hand, which is part of the point.

Its tougher than you think!

As temperatures drop, fire departments have to overcome challenges beyond the flames they're fighting.

The Middleburg Heights Fire Department had a record year in 2025 in terms of total run numbers. We responded to 4,517 calls, up from 4,047 in 2024. That's just under a 12% increase.

I am looking to update our annual run numbers statistics. Please feel free to message me any run data you have, and if you have updated staffing numbers, I will take that also.

Have a safe 2026!
