Missoula Housing Authority The Missoula Housing Authority envisions a thriving community in which all people enjoy an enriched quality of life rooted in stable, affordable housing.

Through creative partnerships and innovative development, the Missoula Housing Authority provides quality housing solutions for low and middle income households in Missoula and the surrounding area. Missoula voters created the Missoula Housing Authority in 1978. Currently, Montana state law says that Public Housing Authorities shall address the problems of poor building conditions, improper planning, excessive land coverage, and unsafe conditions caused by overcrowding. To solve these problems, MHA is authorized to purchase property, demolish and rebuild areas of unsafe housing and build new housing projects.

Did we win Home Resource's SponCon 2026?

Yes. Yes we did. 🏆

We'd like to thank our families, our t-shirt sponsor, and whoever left that perfectly good door in the reuse yard that changed everything. We will now be insufferable until SponCon 2027.

Thank you, Home Resource! 💚

A big thank you to Angel Care! 💙

Last week, Angel Care joined our Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) PCC meeting as a guest presenter. Angel Care provides in-home care for community members in need, working primarily with VA recipients and private pay clients.

Connecting with local partners like Angel Care is a key part of how our FSS program supports participants. FSS helps MHA voucher holders work toward their education, career, and financial goals, and graduates leave the program with an average of $7,700 in savings.

Current voucher participants can learn more about FSS here: https://www.missoulahousing.org/family-self-sufficiency

MHA's Foster Youth Program More Than Doubled This Year!

Sam Oliver and Gwen Rafuse (MHA's Director of HUD Programs) have been sharing the story of our Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) program with leaders across the state, including a roundtable in Bozeman with Governor Gianforte, HUD Secretary Scott Turner, and Regional Administrator Tim Geitner, plus a presentation to Missoula's Housing, Redevelopment & Community Programs committee.

FYI serves young adults 18–25 who've exited foster care and are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Since 2017, the program has grown from 7 to 23 vouchers, after HUD fully approved MHA's request for 12 more this year.

✅ 74% of new vouchers successfully leased
✅ 70% enrolled in Family Self-Sufficiency
✅ 29% identify as Native American, mirroring statewide foster care demographics
