Our middle school students enjoyed an exciting experience at SWPA BotsIQ Manufacturing Day last week!

Students participated in hands-on STEM sessions exploring 3D printing, soldering and assembling flashlights, and “Foundry in a Box,” where they created sand molds and poured molten tin to see how metal parts are cast.

These activities gave students a firsthand look at modern manufacturing while connecting classroom science and technology to real-world careers.

Congratulations to our Madonna Catholic students who participated in today's Keystone STEM Challenge, hosted by Intermediate Unit 1!

Students put their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test as they designed innovative improvements for public parks, including sensory-friendly playgrounds and other creative outdoor spaces.

A special congratulations to our 6th grade team of Lorenzo, Toby, Braxton, and Annalina and our 8th-grade team of Caden, Michael, and Ethan, who both earned 3rd place in their respective grade divisions!

We are also proud of our 5th grade team of Monte, Evelyn, and Sophia and our 7th grade team of Knox, Jaxson, Gabe, Audrina, and Mya for their hard work and creative ideas!

We are so proud of all our students for representing Madonna Catholic!

This week preschool had a pumpkin exploration!! They talked about what it feels like to touch the inside of the pumpkin, what color it is and what it smells like. They also tried to take out all of the seeds. When all of the seeds were separated and washed, the students got to baked them in the oven with salt! They were so excited to take them home!

Afterwards, the students all wrote their name on the pumpkin and made a face with different shapes on the front!

Welcome home, Father Tom! (And Snowflake!)

We were blessed to welcome Father Tom back to Madonna, where his journey in the priesthood began! Father Tom celebrated Mass with our students and shared his experience visiting the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s Chimbote Mission in Peru, which provides medical care and support to families in need.

Thank you, Father Tom, for sharing this beautiful example of faith in action. It was wonderful to have you home!

Every cell is surrounded by a cell membrane, and cell membranes are mainly made of phospholipids. Soap molecules behave like phospholipids, and when soap forms a bubble, it creates a thin, flexible film similar to a cell membrane.

By exploring how bubbles behave, students gained a better understanding of how real cell membranes function in living organisms!

Concepts explored include:
*Membranes are flexible
*Membranes can self repair
*Channel proteins and pores
*Organelles
