The inscription on the Standing Stone Monument, the monument with the remaining stone from the original gitli (dog) shaped monolith, reads that it was dedicated on "the 10th Sun of the Traveler's Moon." The Standing Stone Monument was dedicated Oct. 17, 1895, the day of the October full moon that year. According to the lunar calendar they used, that was 131 years ago today, when the Standing Stone Monument was dedicated. In 2026, the Traveler's Moon is now, Oct. 26. A beautiful tribute to the Aniyunwiya tribe of our Monterey history. Behold the Traveler's Moon (also known as the Hunter's Moon) upon which the Standing Stone Monument was dedicated.
