Staff Sgt. Victoria Ortiz reached 100 enlistment contracts in one fiscal year by staying focused on what matters most: helping future Soldiers explore their options, understand the opportunities available through Army service and take the next step toward their goals.

For SSG Ortiz, this milestone is more than a number. 100 individuals who chose to pursue education, technical training, leadership and a new career path through the U.S. Army.

Happy Juneteenth! 🎉

Today, we honor June 19, 1865—the day the news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, marking the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation.

As we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and culture, we also pause to honor the incredible courage of the soldiers who fought side-by-side to make this liberation a reality. This day belongs to the legacy of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and the white Union soldiers who stood, fought, and sacrificed together on the battlefields of the Civil War to dismantle slavery and preserve the Union.

When Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to deliver General Order No. 3, he was backed by a diverse force of Union soldiers—both Black and white—who marched together to ensure that freedom was finally enforced.

Their shared commitment to the cause of liberty laid the foundation for the freedoms we celebrate today. As we commemorate this historic day, let us remember their collective sacrifice and recommit to the ongoing journey toward unity, equality, and justice for all.

Celebrate the freedom, honor the ancestors, and salute the brave soldiers who fought together to secure it. ✨✊🏾🇺🇸
