Veterans,

The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System proudly hosted its Annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Medical Center on S. Galvez Street, bringing together Veterans, community partners, and supporters in a shared commitment to ending Veteran homelessness.

To accommodate the event, the facility opened its grounds and closed the front circle to provide Veterans with access to a wide range of essential services, including food, clothing, hygiene kits, benefits counseling, basic health screenings, dental services for eligible Veterans, legal assistance, flu shots, DD-214 documentation assistance, vocational rehabilitation and employment services, haircuts, and manicures.

We are grateful for the many community partners who joined us in showing their support for those who have served our nation. Thanks to this collective effort, approximately 200 Veterans received care, resources, and supplies tailored to their individual needs.

Together, we continue our mission to ensure every Veteran has access to the services and support they deserve. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

Veterans,

The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new consolidated Baton Rouge VA Outpatient Clinic, Oct. 20, 2026. This expansion underscores VA's ongoing commitment to improving access and delivering world-class care to Veterans.

The new facility will encompass approximately 100,000 square feet of modern construction and is strategically located on Pecue Lane in Baton Rouge, just under a mile from the new I-10 interchange. This significant expansion will consolidate and replace our two existing Baton Rouge clinic locations, increasing our footprint by approximately 50 percent.

In addition to the clinical services currently offered at our existing clinics, the new facility will feature advanced medical services including MRI, ultrasound, CT scans, pulmonary function testing, and dedicated group mental health spaces. These services will be easily accessible from an ample 600-car parking lot. The clinic is anticipated to open in 2029.

As part of his visit, James Baehr, General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, toured the Baton Rouge North and South clinics to learn more about the care currently being provided to Veterans in the region. He also served as the keynote speaker during the groundbreaking ceremony.

During the ceremony, VA leaders provided an overview of the comprehensive services and state-of-the-art care the new clinic will offer to Veterans. The event brought together Veterans, community members, elected officials, stakeholders, and VA employees to celebrate this important milestone for Veteran health care in Louisiana.

This groundbreaking marks a significant investment in the future of Veteran care and reinforces VA's commitment to providing high-quality, Veteran-centered health care closer to where Veterans live and work.

Thank you for your continued dedication to serving our nation's Veterans.
