Open Hands Legal Services brings free legal aid to soup kitchens and shelters across New York City.

Recognizing that the law is one of the most powerful anti-poverty tools available, we put it in the hands of New York's most vulnerable by conducting mobile legal aid desks and “Know Your Rights” seminars at soup kitchens and shelters across New York City. We mobilize volunteer attorneys to conduct intake and identify and remove the barriers to success that are legal in nature. Using the law, we can help the homeless obtain housing, the unemployed obtain a fair chance to work, re-entering citizens to move beyond crippling debt and more.

Last Thursday, Open Hands Legal Services held a Legal Aid Desk at the Bowery Mission, serving five individuals with free legal assistance.

We are grateful for our dedicated volunteer attorneys and everyone who makes these opportunities possible. Together, we are helping expand access to justice and bringing hope and practical support to those in need.

Every month, a special group of people chooses to stand with Open Hands Legal Services—and we are so grateful for them.

Monthly donors provide something incredibly valuable: steadiness and consistency. Their ongoing support helps us continue showing up for low-income and homeless New Yorkers who are facing difficult legal challenges.

Because of their faithful generosity, we can keep opening doors to legal help, offering compassionate care, and reminding our clients that they are not alone.

This past Saturday, our Open Hands Legal Services volunteers joined City Relief in Harlem for a Legal Aid Desk, serving 5 clients despite the chilly weather!

We’re grateful for our dedicated volunteers who showed up to listen, offer legal guidance, and help our neighbors navigate difficult situations. Their willingness to serve is a beautiful example of Gods love in action. 🙏

⚖️ Serving Our Neighbors. Bringing Justice Closer.

This Saturday, October 17, Open Hands Legal Services will be hosting a Legal Aid Desk from 11 am - 1 pm with City Relief in Harlem at 138th Street & Malcolm X Boulevard.

For many low-income and homeless New Yorkers, facing a legal problem can feel overwhelming—and they may not know where to turn. Our volunteer attorneys are there to listen, offer guidance, and help people understand their legal options.
