day two, and just nine days until World Cup! We're celebrating Paraguay today with SBU Academy Alum and Coach-Mentor Elias!
Donate $11 or more at 👉🏽 powerof11.southbronxnited.org to support soccer for good at SBU! ⚽🇵🇾🏆

"What I’m most looking forward to is seeing my country, Paraguay, play in the World Cup again after 16 years. It’s something I’ve been waiting for a long time, and I’m excited to see Paraguay compete on the biggest stage in soccer once again"

"One of my favorite memories is watching the 2010 World Cup. I remember the penalty shootout against Japan and how excited I was when Paraguay advanced to the quarterfinals. I also remember Tacuara Cardozo taking the decisive penalty. Those are moments I shared with my family and will never forget."

"Soccer brings my family together. Whenever Paraguay plays, we get together to watch the game, eat, and cheer for the team. Some of my best memories are sharing those moments with my family."

Our 2026 campaign launches today, and with it our official countdown to the World Cup! Over the next eleven days, we’re bringing the excitement from our community—voices of student-athletes, their families, and mentors sharing what this moment means and all they they’re looking forward to this summer.

Supporting Los Cafeteros is a multigenerational passion for Sofia and her family:
“It’s important to me, because it’s how I show pride and stay connected to where my family is from. Supporting the national team is important to my family because it always brings us all together. Whenever they play it’s like a big party for us… What I’m looking forward to most this summer is just the chance to see all these different countries and cultures celebrated, the chance for all these other families to come out and celebrate like mine does.”

Sofia plays for the SBU Academy GU19 team. Vamos Colombia! ⚽️🇨🇴🏆
