On October 19, we gathered at Morris Library for The Opening of The Leland Ware Special Collection on Civil Rights and Social Justice, celebrating the life, scholarship and enduring legacy of Dr. Leland Ware, a distinguished University of Delaware professor, civil rights scholar and advocate for social justice.

The occasion marked the opening of the collection and the announcement of the "Dr. Leland Ware Graduate Research Assistantship", established through Melva L. Ware’s generosity in accordance with her late husband’s wishes. The assistantship will support graduate researchers working with Special Collections, with an emphasis on civil rights and social justice.

We are grateful to the Ware family, colleagues, university leaders and friends who joined us to honor Dr. Ware’s contributions and help ensure that his legacy continues to inspire future generations of scholars.

Explore moments from this meaningful celebration in our event photo album.
