Thank you to former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon for taking the time to speak with participants in the Coweta County Detention Center’s WIRED 4 Hope program Tuesday evening.
WIRED 4 Hope is a four-week program designed to help incarcerated individuals develop leadership skills, build self-worth, and learn healthier ways to respond to adversity and life’s challenges. Through guest speakers and group discussions, participants are encouraged to make positive changes that can lead to long-term success when they return to their communities.
Our goal is to provide hope, accountability, and practical tools that can help reduce recidivism and create opportunities for lasting change.
We appreciate Mr. Nixon sharing his personal experiences and encouraging our participants as they continue their journey toward a better future.

Yesterday, we recognized the retirements of Lt. Jamie Hixson and Lt. Russell McCollum.
Lt. Hixson is retiring after 23 years with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, and Lt. McCollum is retiring after 30 years of service.
Between them, they have dedicated more than five decades to serving the citizens of Coweta County and supporting this agency. Throughout their careers, they have helped train and mentor those who followed behind them.
Many citizens know Lt. McCollum from his years on patrol, where he spent countless hours serving and protecting our community. Others know Lt. Hixson from her time as a School Resource Officer, where she built relationships with students, staff, and families while helping keep our schools safe. Though their careers took different paths, both have made a lasting impact on the people of Coweta County and on this agency.
We appreciate the time, effort, and commitment they have given to CCSO over the years. While we’ll miss having them here, we’re excited for them as they begin a new chapter.
Please join us in congratulating Lt. Hixson and Lt. McCollum on their retirements and wishing them all the best.
Enjoy retirement—you’ve earned it.
