🌙 Fall migration is underway from 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟱, and millions of birds are traveling south, many of them at night. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝟲 𝗮.𝗺. because birds use stars and other natural cues to navigate, while artificial light can disorient them, drawing them toward buildings and increasing the risk of window collisions.

Bird Town Pennsylvania encourages residents to help protect migrating birds by taking simple steps at home:
• Turn off unnecessary outdoor lights
• Close blinds or curtains in brightly lit rooms
• Use motion sensors when possible
• Aim outdoor lighting downward
• Choose lower-wattage, warmer, amber-colored lighting when lights are needed

You can also help by planting native trees, shrubs and flowers that provide food and shelter for migrating birds and treating reflective windows to reduce collisions.

Small changes at home can make a meaningful difference for birds during migration season! Learn more at BirdTownPA.org

The Township has worked with the Game Commission to ensure that it is safe to use the playgrounds, ball fields, bocci ball courts and pavilions during the Game Commission regulated Certified Archery Hunting on Township properties. Regardless of these safety measures, some residents have expressed concern that they feel excluded from use of active recreation parks by the Certified Archery Hunter Program. To accommodate these residents, the Township has worked with the PA Game Commission to establish 𝗡𝗢 𝗛𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗹 𝗟𝗼𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. The Township has also closed off trails in the wooded area at Drexel Lodge for the hunting season.

Newtown Township is proud to recognize National First Responders Day. First responders are the backbone of emergency services: firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and 911 dispatchers. These individuals are the first to arrive at the scene of emergencies, providing critical assistance and often risking their own lives to save others. Thank you to all first responders working to keep our community safe!

Newtown Township is implementing a deer management program this fall and winter to reduce the deer population and address concerns about traffic safety, property damage, and the health of our woodlands. Each year, the deer population continues to grow, and the damage worsens. By thinning the deer population, the Township can drastically reduce these dangers.
