This is so important to remember!

🎃👻 Halloween Is for EVERYONE! 🧡🖤

As we prepare for a night filled with costumes, candy, and spooky fun, let’s remember that not every child experiences Halloween the same way. 💜

Some children may struggle to say “Trick or Treat” or “Thank You.” Others may need a little extra time to choose their candy, reach for more than one piece, or feel uncomfortable wearing a costume.

What may seem like unusual behavior could be a child navigating sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, developmental differences, or other disabilities that aren’t always visible.

✨ A little patience goes a long way.
🧡 Choose kindness over judgment.
💜 Lead with understanding and compassion.
🎃 Make every child feel welcomed, included, and celebrated.

Every child deserves to experience the magic of Halloween without fear of being judged or misunderstood.

Because inclusion isn’t just about making room for everyone, it’s about making everyone feel like they belong. 🧡

This Halloween, let’s hand out more than candy. Let’s hand out kindness, patience, acceptance, and love! 🍬💕

🎃 Different abilities. Different experiences. Same Halloween magic!

🧡💜

Some kids walk into a room and find their people in five minutes. Others stand by the wall and wait for someone to ask.

If that’s your child, you probably already know. You’ve seen it at birthday parties and at pickup. Maybe you’ve heard “I didn’t really talk to anyone” more than once.

We run small after-school social skills groups at our Norwalk and Stamford centers. Kids play games, work things out with each other, get coaching and have a BCBA or RBT close by when it gets tricky. Every kid is different, so we start by asking you what’s going on and what you’d like to see change.

We were proud to see our founder, Meghan, representing The Hangout Spot at last night’s ECCO Parenting Series at New Canaan Library.

The panel focused on understanding developmental milestones from birth to age five, bringing together professionals to discuss children’s physical, communication, and social-emotional development, and how parents can support healthy growth along the way.

These early years are so important. Development is about more than reaching milestones. It’s also about learning to communicate, connect with others, navigate new experiences, and begin building the skills that support relationships throughout life.

We’re grateful to ECCO and New Canaan Library for bringing families and professionals together for these important conversations, and proud that Meghan could contribute to a discussion that helps parents better understand and support their children.

At The Hangout Spot, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, connect, and feel a sense of belonging.

We're sold out! 🎃

Our Inclusive Trick-or-Treating Open House on Sunday, November 1 is full, and we are so grateful. Thank you to every family who signed up. It means a lot that you're choosing to spend part of your weekend with us.

We built this day so kids of all kinds can dress up, walk from door to door at their own pace, and feel like they belong. No pressure, no wrong way to trick-or-treat. Some kids will run ahead, some will hang back, and some will just want to show off their costume. All of that is welcome here.

If you're one of the families who reserved a spot, we can't wait to meet you. Come in costume, bring your whole crew, and drop in anytime between 11:00 and 1:00.

If you didn't get a spot this time, we're sorry, and we hope you'll message us. We'd love to stay in touch and let you know about the next time we open our doors.

Happy Halloween from all of us at The Hangout Spot! 💜

Pickup is when you find out how the day really went. Some kids climb in the car and talk nonstop. Others say ""fine"" and look out the window.

If yours is the quiet one, two things can look identical from the front seat: a kid who wants to join in and doesn't know how, and a kid who is happy on their own. They need very different help.

At The Hangout Spot, this is the one of first things we try to understand about a child. Some kids want to be part of things and are missing the skills or the confidence to start. Others really are happy playing alone, and that’s okay too.

We build small groups around kids who are in a similar place, so each one gets the kind of support that fits, and nobody gets pushed into something they don’t want.

Madeleine Fraser looks at why children are reluctant to divulge information about their day and how to encourage more details.
