Norwood Athletic Director Chuck Richardson Honored with Multiple Prestigious Awards
Norwood Athletic Director Chuck Richardson continues to earn statewide and regional recognition for his leadership and impact on interscholastic athletics, most recently receiving a distinguished honor from the Southwest Ohio Athletic Director Association (SWOADA).
On Tuesday, Richardson was presented with the SWOADA Meritorious Award of Service, an accolade recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions through leadership and service to interscholastic athletics across the Southwest District, as well as within their leagues and local communities.
The recognition adds to an already impressive list of honors for Richardson and the Norwood athletic department. Earlier this year, the department received the Bruce Brown Award of Excellence from the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association (OIAAA). The award highlights athletic programs that go beyond wins and championships, focusing instead on advancing the mission of education-based athletics.
The OIAAA emphasizes that true success in school sports should not be measured solely by victories or trophies, but by how programs foster personal growth, character development, and community values. The Bruce Brown Award celebrates departments that are actively working to reshape sports culture to reflect these broader educational goals.
Richardson’s individual accolades further underscore his influence in the field. During his tenure at Norwood, he was named the 2021–22 SWOADA/National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Athletic Director of the Year. He also received the SWOADA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate exemplary character, promote good sportsmanship, and serve as role models through both words and actions.
Beyond Norwood, Richardson plays an active role in shaping athletics across Ohio. He currently serves on the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Southwest District Board as the AA representative for small to midsize schools. Additionally, he contributes his expertise as a member of the Xavier University Sport Management Advisory Board.
Through his leadership and continued service, Richardson has helped elevate the role of athletics in education, reinforcing values that extend well beyond the playing field.
