On Sunday, Jones Police requested assistance from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Tactical Team after a man allegedly assaulted his mother, attempted to carjack her, and barricaded himself inside her home. Following a six-hour standoff, tactical deputies removed a wall of the house, forcing the suspect, 29-year-old Brandon Brookshire, to surrender.

Today, Sheriff Tommie Johnson III held a news conference to express his frustration over the circumstances that led to the standoff. Brookshire had been convicted of five charges in May stemming from an incident in which he held a 13-year-old at gunpoint. Despite those convictions, Brookshire was sentenced to probation, leaving him free when Sunday's alleged assault, attempted carjacking, and standoff occurred.
