Last week, JMG students held a fundraiser by offering to vacuum staff members’ cars! Through this hands-on experience, students practiced collaboration, leadership, and teamwork while working together toward a common goal. The money raised will help support JMG activities and projects, higher education scholarships, and driver’s education scholarship opportunities for students. This was a fun opportunity to work on important skills, while also investing in their future!

Yesterday, Mr. Gilbert and Mr. Koscuiszka's National Parks class went to Acadia to explore the interaction of conservation and recreation. We recreated by hiking the Gorham mountain loop, exploring the surf at Sand Beach and taking, "more photos than I have ever taken."

While at Thunder Hole we looked at how the railing and stair system created in the 1960's was created to conserve the loss of life at that site. Students had prepared plans about how to solve the problem in previous classes, so it was great to see exactly how the parks completed that project.

We also spent time prepping for our future gateway community unit. We went to Jordan Pond House, Bar Harbor, and Momo's Cheesecake and tracked how much money we spent.

Finally we celebrated the creation of the newest crown jewel in the NPS. Welcome to family #64 Chiricahua National Park.

A quick 45 minute drive to Mt Waldo allowed our JROTC students to get out and explore their “backyard” today. The moderate 4 mile hike traverses an abandoned quarry. The quarry was established in the early 1800s and operated with both mules and rail into the 1960s. Stone from the quarry can be found at national landmarks such as the Washington Monument, the Empire State Building, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Students incorporated physical fitness into their day while developing leadership skills and gaining appreciation for natural resources. Go Coyotes.

Ms. Dunham’s Honors Algebra 2 classes reviewed solving linear systems today with a spirited game of Castle Attack! The teams worked together to solve problems and steal their opponents’ flags. The team with the most flags at the end won. Their costumes for Homecoming added to the fun! Great job, everyone, and good luck on your assessment!

"Success doesn't just show up. You have to show up for it."

Our attendance at OTHS has been excellent so far this year! Our entire school is at 92% daily attendance. In addition, we have 220 students who have missed no more than 1 day so far this year. Both numbers are an improvement over the same span of time last year! Fantasic start OTHS! Keep it up!

Last week, JMG students visited the Witter Research Farm at the University of Maine!
During their visit, students explored career opportunities in the agriculture industry and learned more about their Animal Sciences program. They got to learn about the calving process, saw an automatic milking machine in action, and, of course, spent some time visiting with the cows!
This was a great hands-on learning experience for students interested in working with animals, giving them a better understanding of the day-to-day realities and opportunities within the animal industry.
Thank you to Witter Research Farm for hosting our students and helping them learn more about future career pathways! 🐄
Go Coyotes.
