We’re incredibly proud to celebrate 50 years of Sarpy County Diversion.
For five decades, our Diversion Officers have worked to promote second chances through accountability. We are grateful to their service to the Sarpy County Community!
Sarpy County Diversion launched 50 years ago this month. For five decades, its staff has helped people from all walks of life, from adults struggling with alcohol addiction to teenagers who’ve had a brush with the law.
Each year, the program helps about 1,000 juveniles and adults, and includes specialized options like Mental Health Diversion and Teen Court, which is a peer-led program for first-time juvenile offenders.
Diversion is important because it keeps people who qualify out of jail and supports their efforts to be productive members of our community. But it’s not a free pass. It requires real accountability and improvement.
Diversion and its staff were honored with a proclamation during the Sarpy County Board meeting this week.
“People make mistakes because we’re all human. I think one of the things Sarpy County does better than any county in the state is we recognize that,” said Board Chairman Don Kelly.
Kelly also recognized diversion’s dedicated staff, who have a combined 130 years of service to the county.
